BITS Pilani Infrastructure: Campus, Hostel & Other Facilities

BITS Pilani infrastructure offers modern facilities for students and staff. The institute is equipped with a hostel, a library, recreational facilities, sports facilities, etc. The BITS Pilani campus area is spread over 328 acres. Some highlighting features of the Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani are listed below.

Hostel

• All the BITS Pilani students have access to the hostel facilities as the institute is fully residential. Only in exceptional cases, students whose parents or close relatives are Pilani residents are granted permission to become day scholars. 
• BITS Pilani hostel has one hostel complex for girls and eleven hostels for boys. 
• The hostel rooms are fully equipped with internet access, solar water heaters, water purifiers, and other modern amenities. 
• Every hostel has a common area with a phone and cable television.
• Every pair of two-boys BITS Pilani hostels has a kitchen/mess combo. On the other hand, the hostel for girls has a mess that is located inside the hostel premises. 
• BITS Pilani students staying in the hostel must eat their meals in the hostel messes. 
• In addition, the students run the mess attached to the BITS Pilani hostel.

Library

• The BITS Pilani library can accommodate up to 8,000 students and provides 246 open-access IT workstations as well as 738 open-access study spaces.  
• It has student computer facilities in addition to the usual books and magazines.
• More than half a million items are in the collections, including 3,000 titles of journals in the BITS Pilani library. 
• More than 20,000 electronic resources, such as ebooks, journals, and databases, are available in the BITS Pilani library.
• With regard to print and electronic resources, the BITS Pilani campus library offers a remarkable combination of books, journals, databases, technical reports, and standards. 
• It is widely recognised as one of the best collections in the area. It is particularly noteworthy in the fields of engineering, science, management, pharmacy, and the social sciences and humanities.  
• The BITS Pilani library's vast collection of print and electronic books, which totals more than 4.50 lakh volumes, is evidence of its depth of knowledge. 
• The library catalogue allows users to search the collection.  
• The BITS Pilani library's collection of print books totals more than 1.38 lakh volumes. 
• In addition, there are over 40,000 bound volumes, over 1700 theses and dissertations, 15000 textbooks, general books, references, and 1538+ rare books in the print collection. On open-access shelves, books are arranged and made available to users in different collections.

Classrooms

• The BITS Pilani campus is divided into several academic blocks to facilitate the seamless delivery of lectures to a large number of students.
• The New Academic Block is where most management course lectures are held (NAB). 
• BITS Pilani infrastructure offers well-lit and ventilated classrooms. They are large enough to accommodate a vast number of students.
• Each classroom has a central air conditioning system, computers, speakers, screens, projectors, and blackboards.

Computer Lab

• A computer lab is kept by the Department of Management close to the research scholars' workspace. 
• BITS Pilani infrastructure features a computer lab for faculty, scholars, and students. This lab explicitly meets the computing needs of management discipline students. 
• Among the programs that are set up on the computers in the lab are Systat 13.2, Ri386 3.4.1, @Risk 7.5, Minitab, Gephi 0.9.1, Project Pro 2016, SmartPls 3.2.6, GeNIe 2.1, SAS University Edition, Tableau Desktop for Students, and IBM SPSS Statistics 25.0 with AMOS. 
• In addition, the Department of Economics & Finance and the Department of Management use the same computer lab. 
• BITS Pilani facility includes an Information Processing Centre (IPC) in addition to computer labs that the students can use.
• All institute students have access to the IPC, which is situated across from the Department of Management's building.

Life Essentials

• BITS Pilani infrastructure features a medical centre with general practitioners, gynecologists, dentists, pediatricians, and ENT specialists. 
• The same facility also offers Ayurvedic medical services. Free medical examinations are occasionally arranged for the physical health of BITS employees, instructors, and students. 
• Additionally, the BITS Pilani campus medical centre hosts camps to raise awareness of health issues and detect diseases like diabetes, osteoporosis, asthma, and other conditions.
• The Birla Institute of Technology and Science Pilani hosts a blood donation camp each year. All common types of prescription medications are available for purchase at the drugstore in the medical centre.
• Anytime during the day or night, an ambulance is available inside the BITS Pilani campus for medical emergencies. 
• There is a separate ward at the Birla Savajanik Hospital within a few kilometres away that is designated for BITS Pilani staff, faculty, and students. 
• The M. S. Eye Hospital and the institute have an agreement for both routine and emergency services. Additionally, this hospital offers dental care services. 
• Every student on the BITS Pilani campus has regular access to a counsellor for any type of academic or personal counselling. The student incurs no costs whatsoever for the private, one-on-one counselling sessions.

Cooperative Store

• BITS Pilani infrastructure features a Cooperative Store "Akshay", where food, stationery, clothing, sports equipment, and other necessities are available.
• Fruits and vegetables are also sold in different areas of the same store. 
• The Connaught Market saloons and parlors are available for use for grooming.
• Connaught Market is home to a number of additional stores that sell food, clothing, medicine, and groceries. Javed Habib's hair salon is also located on BITS Pilani campus.

Canteen

• BITS Pilani canteen is available for students to satiate their appetites along with the common areas near hostels where students can find delicious and healthful food.
• The All Night Canteen (ANC), Food King, Looters, and Sky Lab are among the student favourites. 
• These restaurants take a variety of payment methods and are open until late at night.
• Connaught boasts a couple of eateries as well. These eateries serve food from various regions of India and the world, both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. In addition to these, there are numerous snack options available at the small stores that are next to each hostel and throughout the BITS Pilani campus. 
• BITS Pilani infrastructure features an Amul shop that sells various dairy products under the well-known brand. 
• Many other eateries with a broader menu can be found a short distance from the university.

Games and Sports Facilities

• A sound body leads to a sound mind. The BITS Pilani infrastructure has many facilities to guarantee that students have proper access to various games and sports. 
• Students congregate voluntarily at the Student Activity Centre (SAC) to play badminton, tennis, squash, and boxing during the morning and evening hours.
• Members of the health club can work out in the gymnasium, which offers equipment for weight training, cardio, and aerobic activities. 
• Every semester, students are taught yoga and martial arts. 
• There is a 25 x 12.5 m swimming pool where people can swim and play water polo. Students can become members of the swimming club and health club by paying a nominal fee.
• The BITS Pilani campus has several playgrounds where students can play volleyball, basketball, hockey, cricket, football, and other sports. In addition, table tennis, chess, carom, and other indoor games are available at all student residences.
• The Senior Coach, Physical Director, Martial Art Instructor, and other supporting staff members assist students with the necessary supervision and guidance for their athletic endeavours.
