Infrastructure facilities

Computer Centre

  • The campus-wide University network consists of state of the art networking equipment capable of providing high bandwidth with 1Gbps fiber backbones at distribution level to provide connectivity to all Faculties, Departments and Centres
  • At present more than 1800 nodes are connected to the network and being served by more than 20 servers, 70 high-end switches, routers and security devices. All departments of both the campuses are connected to NKN for resource sharing with all major educational and research institutes across the country. ICT services including the internet are being provided across the University using 1 Gbps bandwidth at both the Campuses as part of NKN.
  • The EDUSAT based Satellite Interactive Terminal (SIT) for conducting virtual classes is also available in the Computer Centre. This facility is established under CEC-UGC EDUSAT Network funded by ISRO, Govt. of India. The Computer Centre conducts various Distant Learning Workshops organized, time to time, by CEC-UGC New Delhi, Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradun, etc.

Central Instrumentation Laboratory(CIL)

  • The CIL was established in the year 2007 with funding from UGC.
  • The CIL houses sophisticated state of art analytical instruments like GAS Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS), Atomic Absorption Spectrometry(AAS), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography(HPLC), Fourier Transform Infra-Red Spectrometer(FT-IR), Impedance Analyser(LCR Meter) and a new 400MHz FT-NMR with multiprobe facility has been installed recently.
  • The main objective of CIL to provide analytical instrumentation support to all science departments of Assam University, other Institutes, research laboratories, national laboratories and industries in the country. In addition, CIL also provides teaching support to Post Graduate and IPP level of science departments of the University.

Library

  • Assam University Library was started with the establishment of the University in the year 1994 as a central facility for meeting the information requirements of the academic community of the University.
  • The Central Library of Assam University was shifted to it's new permanent Central Library-cum-Computer Centre building in January 2006 and was renamed as RABINDRA LIBRARY.
  • The new building has a total plinth area of 38,700 s.q.ft. The main function of Library includes collection and development of knowledge resources, technical processing, organization, retrieval and dissemination of information to the end users including the academic community of Barak Valley in particular and the entire North Eastern Region in general.

Health Centre

  • The University Health Centre, managed by experienced Medical personnel including Lady Medical Officer, supported by para-medical staff. The center caters to the medical needs of the University community.
  • The University has introduced Medical Insurance to each student. Besides these, health camps are frequently organized in the campus with specialist doctors from Silchar Medical College.
  • University is issuing Health Card to each student for the extending Medical facilities to the students efficiently. In the case of emergency, ambulance service is also provided to transfer patients to Silchar Medical College, around 10 km from the campus. However, expenses related to medical emergencies and hospitalization shall be borne by the parents/guardians of the student concerned if not covered by the Insurance.
  • The University initiated the process of revamping health center by procuring equipment like X-4647 ray machine, auto analysis and setting up of the diagnostic laboratory.

Hostel Accommodation

  • There are at present nine hostels in the University campus. The hostels are: four for boys and five for girls students having approximately 749 single and shared room accommodation.
  • The Hostels are furnished with basic facilities, Hostel seats are limited and every student may not get the seat in hostel.
  • Availability of seats depends upon the vacancy in the Hostel. A separate Booklet Hostel Boarders & conduct Rules of the Hostel is also available.

Transport Facility

  • In addition to state transport bus services, eleven buses are also available for the benefit of the students.
  • There are also three buses for the staff members of the University Communicating between Silchar and University Campus.

Gymnasium

  • A well equipped Gymnasium exists for both ladies and gents. Interested students, faculty, staff members can enroll their name for availing facilities in the Gymnasium.

Games & Sports

  • Since its inception in 1994, games and sports have been one of the important focus of Assam University's endeavor to facilitate all-round development of student's physical and mental abilities. Every year an Annual Social Meet is organized in the University where along with cultural activities, indoor and outdoor sports are held.
  • The University is currently a member of the Inter-University Sports Board of India and its teams participate in Zonal and All-India University Tournaments bringing laurels and prizes and medals for the University.
