Kerala Technical University grading system has a grade point to letter grading system which denotes remarks such as good, excellent and more. The students can also know about the assessment patterns both internal and external of the institution.
KTU grading system helps students to understand the method, parameters and criteria for the evaluation of their academic performance. Here, the 10-grade points (with 90% and above) mean an O grade, 9-grade points (85% to 90%) mean an A+, 8.5-grade points (80% to 85%) mean an A, 8-grade points (70% to 80%) mean a B+, and so on.

Kerala Technical University Evaluation System
Kerala Technical University's evaluation system is similar to any other engineering college. There are two types of evaluation systems;
- Internal Assessment
- Theoretical Internal Assessment
- Practical Internal Assessment
- Semester Examination
- Comprehensive Examination
- Design Project
- Final Semester Project
Then again, the internal assessment is divided into two theoretical and practical internal assessment systems.
Theoretical Internal Assessment is conducted for a maximum of 50 marks. It is further sub-divided as;
i) Two 1 hour tests with a maximum of 20 marks each.
ii) A mini-project or assignment for 10 marks.
Which makes a total of 50 marks.
A Practical Internal Assessment is conducted for a maximum of 100 marks. The assessment goes as follows;
i) Practical record with outputs - 60 marks
ii) Regular class viva - 10 marks
iii) Final practical examination - 30 marks
The End semester examination has a few components to be assessed, such as;
i) Comprehensive Examination
The comprehensive examination usually happens in the 6th semester of a student's course term. It is further divided into;
Level 1: Written Test, an Multiple Choice Question (MCQ) with a duration of 1 hour, will be evaluated for a maximum of 50 marks.
Level 2: Oral Test will be evaluated for 50 marks.
The seminar is conducted for students to teach their conveying skills on their subject knowledge. The duration of the workshop will be 20 minutes, with a 5-minute question and answer session. The marks will be awarded based on the following criteria;
Level 1: Report - 30% of the total marks
Level 2: Presentation - 40% of the total marks
Level 3: Q&A session - 30% of the total marks
iii) Design Project
The design project is a group activity for the students to understand teamwork and other team management qualities. The design product evaluation has two levels;
Level 1: Making two design projects each for 20 marks - 40 marks in total
Level 2: Final evaluation and presentation of the design project - 60 marks in total
iv) Final Semester Project
The final semester project starts during the mid of 7th semester and continues till the end of the course. The students have to work on their projects individually or in small groups of 4 members. The evaluation process of the final semester project is as follows;
Level 1: Make two progress reports - 20% of the total marks graded by the project supervisor.
Level 2: Project Report - 30% of the total marks graded by the Assessment Board.
Level 3: Project Presentation and Viva - 50% of the total marks graded by the Assessment Board.
