Placements and Internships

4.5

SJCE goes hand in hand with top companies, it has a huge reputation when it comes to placements. There is a preference for SJCE students even when it comes to off-campus placements because of the reputation and trust it has built over the years with top-tier companies. There is over 90% placement for students from tech branches. The hiring starts from early July for the final years, and the companies keep hiring on campus until graduation. The top companies include

  • Cisco
  • Microsoft
  • Western Digital
  • Danske
  • Qualcomm
  • Benz

and many more. Mass companies like Accenture and Wipro also hire aplenty. There were a total of 733 offers, 95 internships, and the highest package being 33 LPA as of 2018-19 batch. That being said, the students have to work hard to end up in their dream company.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

5

SJCE has an excellent reputation for having a glorious campus, most of which is covered in greenery. Its a lot vast than the average engineering university and it is spacious enough to conduct any given event at any given time. The well known Jayciana and many other inter college events are hosted in our college because of the infrastructure and facilities available. There are seperate hostels for boys and girls, both on campus. Other hostels are also available within 1-2 miles of radius. The hostel fee ranges from 55-65k per annum. There are 6 different canteens in the campus offering various cuisines. There are wifi facilities for the students, the labs and libraries provide top service as well.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

Getting placed in a good college may not be easy, but the hard work surely pays off in the end! My experience to get to SJCE was no different. I had to get through so many adversities to find a seat for myself. The first and most important thing is to secure a good percentage in the 12th, which will give you an upper hand later on in the KCET (Karnataka common entrance test) rankings. Anything between 85 to 100 is a healthy number. The next step would be to score well in the KCET in the three core subjects (physics, chemistry, and maths). It is recommended to go through the previous model papers before proceeding with the test. Anything above 70% is a good score in KCET. Taking into consideration both the boards and the entrance score, a ranking is provided to the student. You could argue that anything below 20k is a good rank, but to get to a college like SJCE, you need to secure below 10k. There are other parameters to be considered like the stream you would like to opt. The circuital branches like CS, IS and EC is harder to get, and the ranking needs to be below 4k. There are also other ways to get admitted, like the Comed-K or management quota, but the seats are limited and you need to cash in a huge amount.

Academics and Faculty

One of the unique things about SJCE is its fluid time table and day to day schedule. The working hours vary from 6-8 hours a day, or even less at times. This gives an opportunity for the students to spend time on practical things apart from the curriculum. It allows students to pursue their interests in extracurricular activities. It also gives flexibility to the teachers as well. Teachers focus on theory and practicals alike. Special focus is given to projects and seminars to give the students an outlook of the corporate world and to thrive in it. Subjects like environmental studies and the German language are also part of the syllabus. There are two semester-end exams every year, along with 50 internal marks based on 5 events (it could be tests, assignments, or even lab events). Teachers don't spoon-feed and expect students to show diligence and implementation of things up to a certain degree, which will help in the long run.

Fees and Scholarships

Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, [SJCE] Mysore Fee Structure. The fee for my course is Rs 90,000 per year.

The fees pretty much depend on the type of admission acquired. The larger quota is dedicated to students joining through merit ie. entrance exam. Their annual fees vary from 70k-90k based on their category. The fees for management and comed-K are more or less not so different ranging from 1,80,000 to 2,10,000 annually. That being said, the management seats demand a huge amount through donations during the time of admission. Also, the college encourages scholarship schemes like E-pass and scholarships to minority students like merit-cum-means. The minority students can also avail loans through the arivu scheme from KMDC (Karnataka Minority Department Center).

Clubs and Associations

5

One of the bonuses of being part of SJCE is the opportunity to be able to become a part of a bigger network. The most notable ones being the IEEE and CSI communities. This gives students an opportunity to involve themselves in various projects, and also conduct many fun events! There is also the official sports club of SJCE which gives a platform for various sports like

  • Football
  • Cricket
  • Volleyball
  • Tennis
  • Table tennis
  • Weight lifting
  • Chess

The main college fest is the well known Jayciana, along with Shabd, Technologix, and many more. Life in SJCE is fun altogether. It is a well balanced, goal-oriented place to learn, get placed, and have fun, all at the same time.
