Placements and Internships

4.5

  • We don't have official Placement as it is not an IT institute, this institute is for research in Basic Science. So, I prefer to talk about summer internships. Students go to Germany, US , India(TIFR,IISc ,IITs etc) for a summer internship. We get 3 months full holiday which is enough for summer research programmes. A lot of research paper get published on basis of work on a summer project.
  • At TIFR, we get 7000 Rs per month as VSRP fellowship.
  • Generally, we get Rs. 5000 as INSPIRE Internship and 20,000 per year for Internship expenses.
  • In Germany or Finland, the converted money amount is around 1 lakh per month.
  • R&D companies generally come. Aakash institute(Coaching ) also comes. SHELL comes etc.
  • Around 40% students take Ph.D. admissions either in India or abroad(general trend). where they get around Rs. 2.5 Lakh per month as the stipend, in India they get Rs. 32,000 per month.
  • Some of our alumni secured admission in MIT, Max plank institute, Harward, Oxford etc.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

5

  • Currently, 4 hostels are there but 4 more are proposed. Hostel fee is Rs. 1500 per semester(too cheap) including light/ water etc(not including mess)
  • It is mandatory to stay inside the campus. Outside area is very luxurious.
  • Food is very good compared to all IITs/NITs etc. It costs Rs. 2666 per month.
  • All classroom are having AC. Stepwise class.
  • Projector, board, sound system, extremely equipped and costly labs are there. In each hostel, we have a mess at ground floor. We have the best library infrastructure in India.
  • It is a 8-floor library(well furnished and maintained).
  •  Wifi is free (speed is not good 1 MBPS but sometimes 40 Mbps is also seen).
  • There are various other facilities including sports , gym, free transport, health centre, canteen etc at Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • There is three channel of entry in Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Mohali:
  • 1)Top 1% student of all Boards(State and Central Boards) are eligible to sit for joint IISER entrance exam conducted every year after JEE ADVANCE Results.
  • 2) JEE ADVANCED rank holders(<10,000) - direct admission only counselling
  • 3) KVPY(Kishore Vagyanik Protsahan Yojna) rank holder -direct admission only counselling
  • I entered through SCB channel (top 1% followed by exam)
  • PCMB all four are asked in exam and you have to answer all. Since competing students are also very good so it is tough.
