Placements and Internships

4.5

  • The placement cell of Dyal Singh isn't very old. It started in 2013/14, but in spite of that they have brought in companies like HDFC, EnY, TCS, SnP Capital IQ, Axis Risk Consulting, Grofers, Urban Clap, HIPR, etc. I have myself acquired a placement in one of these firms. The internships offered have been from startups as well as top companies, with stipend ranging from INR 5000 to 24000 per month.
  • Exact percentage of placemnt is unknown to me but its about 75 to 85%. People did get placed last year. Their average salary is from INR 2 lakh to 4 lakh p.a.
  • This year the economics department had its first alumni meet and the outreach was around 150 alumni students. They have been well placed and students coming from top positions at HSCBC, etc. Many have gone on to become PhD students at top Universities in the US. Many were in their post graduation phase.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

  • Dsc happens to be the largest college in terms of infrastructure and space covered. Its prime location - Lodhi Road, makes it even more grand. Unfortunately DSC does not have hostel facilities. Most students either come from their own homes or relative's places or PGs. Their PG's are located in close by areas such as Jungpura, South Extension, Lajpat Nagar or Amar Colony. All these places are maximum 15-20 mins from the college.
  • The food in the college canteen provides for everyones needs from proper lunches to snacks, everything is low priced to serve for all. The food joints near the college make a good alternative for someone who wishes to step out of college.
  • Almost all classrooms are smart classes fitted with projectors and screens. There is a separate science block for the science courses. In addition to this there are more labs in the old buildings. The college caters to more students than any college. There is a parallel evening college that also takes place in the same infrastructure. College has been renovated from time to time to keep the infrastructure updated. The canteen is huge and the seminar hall accomodates a good number of students for seminars. There is an auditorium with a capacity of 250 students too.

Academics and Faculty

4.5

  • The college discipline in the economics department is comendable. The teaching methadology and the efforts put in by the teacher to make the course curriculum as relevant as possible, gets the students to appreciate the subject. Our internals which include presentations, tests and assignment cover the all round economics around us.
  • The tests and assignments focus on  the prescibed course where as presentations and projects are usually from the current economics scenerio or past economic development. The formal business like presentation set up helps us to prepare for the job presentations, it is conducted in proper business suits and seminar hall.

Fees and Scholarships

5

  • As our college is a part of delhi university's fully government owned colleges, the fees here ranges from 6000-8000 INR annually including the exam fee.
  • Scholarships or subsidized fees are available for the students who are in need and quite a lot of students avail this annually.
  • Our college has the bank tie up with the State Bank of India which helps this transaction as SBI branch is also in the vicinity of the college.

Clubs and Associations

5

  • There are around 7 to 10 societies in college ranging from quiz club to fashion society. A lot of departments also have their own wings like economics has an editorial and photography wing. Since the college has courses from BA Program to masters in the same college, the best festival are usually not the annual college festival in general but the department festivals done at an annual festival level with budgets from INR 3-8 lakhs  spanning over 2 to 3 days.
  • According to my knowledge the economics festival- Ecowaves and the commerce festival- Communique are the best known festivals of the college with thier guest line ups to prize budgets (2 lakh-5 lakh INR) have proven to be better than a lot of top colleges of the university. the college has hosted the intercollege boxing championship for long now and the cricket and the sport festival is widely know in the university.
  • As i am in my third year (final year), i can say this in the most unbiased manner that the growth of the college has astounded not only the students but also the teachers. The college life in general has been so eventful and one of the biggest experience enriching part of my life. From organizing big budget start up fairs to small author talks, the college has taught me everything from management and organizing skills to skill dvelopment and business presentations. All of this can only benefit me in my future.
