Placements and Internships

3

  • The training and placement cell plays a major role in preparing the students for campus interviews/ placements etc.  There are so many companies which hire from COEP, companies like Barclays, HSBC,JP Morgan  etc. For IT, COMP. Production engineering students are hired by companies like JCB, SKF, Loreal, Tata Aeronautics, Honeywell etc. Which also offer paid internships to these students.
  • Metallurgy and mechanical students get placed in companies like Bajaj, JSW, John Deere, IMP, Tata steels, Bharat Forge etc.  Many other students get offer from Tata Consultancy Services.
  • On the overall, the placement options are quite varied with average packages starting from Rs 3,00,000 per annum and the highest offer according to my knowledge to stand at around Rs 40,00,000 per annum.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel fee is around Rs 30,000 annually for everyone besides the NRI Students, who are charged a whopping Rs 80,000 annually, which is not worth paying for.

For the students, the housing section is at a distance of , say, 200 meters from the college, which is also quite large and houses approximately 1500 students. Girls and boys hostel and mess separate. Wouldn't really opt for the hostel or mess, as it is 4 people in a room and common bathrooms on each floor.

The college has a huge campus space catering to all the departments on either side of a main road, which is connected via a subway for ease of access to students as well as faculty. Newer buildings are under construction, but as of now, it caters to all the necessities of the various departments. The college boasts of top-notch laboratories and state of the art equipment for research as well as experimental purposes.

The college has a Gym, a boat club cause it neighbours the Mula and Mutha rivers so rowing and kayaking is common among COEPians, and badminton courts, table tennis , and a very big ground which is infront of the hostel campus and caters football, basketball, volleyball, cricket etc. Along with a few indoor gaming options.

Academics and Faculty

3.5

The college starts at 0800 hours, for others its 1200 hours, but generally it lasts 5-6 hours on an average. The professors here love to give assignments and projects, maybe just for keeping students busy or simply so as to lessen our burden.

Saturday and Sunday are holidays, as it is a Government institute. Plus, sometimes regional and national holidays also add up. Occasionally, the teachers might indulge in extra classes on weekends.

In any case, the material to be processed within the prescribed deadlines for projects and assingments sometimes gets too much, but the students ought to be smart enough I guess.

Method of teaching is mostly generalised with only a few professors taking a different route in setting papers and projects and grading the students. But quality wise, almost everyone from among the faculty has a unique way to convey his/her subject to the student, and tries and goes beyond the way to help the students. Ofcourse, its college so we can't really expect to  be spoonfed all the time, but yes, they do guide in every possible manner.

On the overall, I'm honestly going to miss this place once I'm done graduating.

Fees and Scholarships

2.5

  • The course fee varies from student to student.  General category students pay around Rs 70,000/- annually. NRI/PIO pay around $7500 annually. There is a separate category for Gulf students , who end up paying same as that of the General category students.
  • besides these, there are 'n' no. Of scholarships ranging from categories like SC,ST,OBC,minority scholarships etc. in which almost all of the tuition fee is waived off.
  • Also, the college also caters free-ship for some students, where the student only pays half of his/her annual fee and the rest is taken care of by the institute etc. The eligibilty for these above mentioned scholarships are different like 10th and 12th grade from Maharashtra, caste certificate, income certificate for income based scholarship etc.

Clubs and Associations

3.5

  • There are so many clubs ranging from debate clubs to classical music clubs, art and craft clubs, boat club which offers kayaking, rowing etc.
  • BAJA specialises in ATV manufacture and racing and has continuously brought Laurels to the college. Ed-cell specialises in imparting the entrepreneurial spirit through its activities.
  • The college boasts a very talented cultural team, on the overall there are a lot of activities to turn to besides studies.

Academics & Faculty : We have classes for six hours daily. Project work is given for 3 hours in a day. We have two tests and one final exam in each semester. 3-4 assignments are given each semester. The method of teaching is average and overall the teaching is not satisfactory. Overall, I feel the college needs to improve.
