Placements and Internships
- Placements are one of the key things that everyone keeps an eye out for. According to me this highly depends on your stream with the core departments such as ECE, CS, IT, and Mechanical able to place above 90% of their students in one company or another. The package offered to them is generally not that great, though. The top students are able to get good packages varying from 10 to 15 lakhs per annum. But the general average still remains low at 4 lakhs per annum, with other departments such as Civil and Mechatronics really struggling to get even half of their students placed.
College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities
- This is where MIT, Manipal's true strength lies. The MIT campus is blessed with sprawling infrastructure and architecture, which is really pleasing to the eye. On comparison to other engineering colleges the food court and mess facilities are more superior and students are provided with a variety of food choices. Hostels are properly maintained with a variety of room choices with great study furniture and beds. There are 25 girls and boys blocks so the prices vary greatly depending on your room choice. Library is fully equipped along with a wifi connection which is available all across campus. A special mention goes to the sporting facilities available. With the Marena sports complex which happens to the largest in Asia is a state of the art complex housing various sporting facilities and a state of the art gym and sauna.
Academics and Faculty
- Academics is one of the key reasons I chose this college. It's one of the best and oldest institutions in the country. However, just like most engineering colleges in India this college to struggles with research and a more practical approach towards teaching engineering. Projects are few and far between with them barely reflecting in the final GPA of a student. Regular scheduling of classes along with the assignment taking methodologies do add value on an academic front, still, the beauty of creative and innovative thinking are often sidelined for theoretical rote learning.
Fees and Scholarships
- The fee structure often faces a lot of flak in Manipal. This is due to it being, as some would call it 'too expensive'. The fee for my course stands at 2.64 lakh rupees and for other streams, the figure varies from 2.4 to 2.7 lakhs. There are scholarships on offer however including the TMA Pai scholarship which is essential given from second year onwards to students who maintain a certain GPA. It may be 8.5 and above, a different department has different criteria.

Academics & Faculty : In MIT, The students are provided with multiple opportunities in terms of technical and extra-curricular activities right from his/her first semester. The college has its predefined timings according to the no of batches in each branch. These are generally not subjected to change. Each batch generally has 3-4 full days and 3-2 half day respectively depending on how many labs they have in that semester. There was rumor that the college might have reduced the no of working days to 5 for the coming batches which I'm not sure of, though. The college does boast a large no of faculty thereby reducing the student-faculty ratio. The faculty too have varied experience ranging from 2 years to nearly 25 years. Many of them are having Ph.D's and all of them having at least an M-Tech degree. Academics & Faculty : Academics are pretty good. Class timings are very well managed. Teachers are well experienced and interested to teach.
Academics & Faculty : Manipal Institute of Technology provides students with world class resources and amenities for learning. The faculty is however not very learned and have a difficulty in communicating with the students. The schedule of classes is good. Same cannot be told for the tests though. Classrooms are fantastic. Libraries are world class and provide excellent environment to study.
Academics & Faculty : Class timings are from 9am-5pm. Quality and Method of teaching is perfect.
