A large number of classrooms at Tolani Maritime Institute are fully air-conditioned and are equipped with modern audio-visual aids. Subjects that require specialised equipment to be used during instruction are taught in suitably equipped, dedicated rooms. Each classroom can accommodate upto 40 students, and larger drawing halls are available when required.
Laboratories are essential in supporting the classroom taught aspects of science, engineering and computer related subjects. To fulfill the needs of students and teachers, various well-equipped laboratories have been set up to demonstrate and teach the principles of material testing, mechanics, hydraulics, electric control systems, electronic equipment and electric machinery.
Computer based training modules like Full Mission Ship Handling and Engine Room Simulator including Electronic Chart Display System, Radar and Marine Communication Simulators are also used extensively.
The campus has three modern computer centres equipped with high performance servers and workstations. A wealth of software and several operating system platforms provide extensive opportunities and capabilities for advancing computer skills and allow the use of modern teaching methods like computer simulation and computer based instruction. TMI is keenly aware of the importance of computers in all professions and will ensure that these facilities keep evolving to keep pace with the needs of students to develop a high degree of proficiency in computers related to their discipline.
A dedicated broadband connection from VSNL supported by an ISDN backup connection provides Internet connectivity to the campus. The fully switched network plus WiFi capability in the residential hostels provides residents with 24x7 Internet access from almost anywhere on campus.
The 7,000 sq. ft. library caters exclusively to the students and faculty of TMI. It offers a broad range of titles relevant to maritime disciplines, mechanical engineering, computers and the basic sciences. The Library also receives a large number of popular magazines and current maritime journals. Multi-media resources are also available and are expected to grow. The library remains open over extended hours for the benefit of all the residents and is used extensively for research related to project assignments.
A 280 seated fully air-conditioned auditorium with modern projection facilities and carefully designed acoustic characteristics provides a venue for seminars, large group presentations and special events including students' extra-curricular activities.
Students reside in three hostels each having more than 250 rooms, modern kitchens and separate 250 seat dining halls. A reading room, a television room with a large screen projection television and activity areas are located in the buildings. An internal quadrangle provides a large open space suitable for recreational or leisure activities and hostels 2 and 3 overlook a 200 metre synthetic athletics track. A majority of hostel rooms also have Wi-Fi access to the campus data network, which enables broadband Internet connectivity.
FACULTY RESIDENCE COMPLEX
Majority of the faculty members and essential support staff stay on campus. Ample high quality, spacious residences are provided on the sprawling grounds. Walk-ways and attractively landscaped gardens with children's play areas have been provided within the Faculty Residence complex to support every facet of family life. This allows for community building and extended faculty interaction with students. This not only helps in producing good shipboard officers, but also better citizens for tomorrow.
EXECUTIVE HOSTEL BLOCK
A separate building overlooking the lake houses well furnished single / double rooms suitable for senior officers and short term visitors.
The TMI campus has a centrally located Sports Complex, a large multi-purpose playing field, a man made lake that can be used for sailing and numerous other sports facilties interspersed within the residential section of the campus.
Indoor Sports: The Sports Complex includes four glass back squash courts, three indoor badminton courts, two well equipped gymnasiums and several indoor games.
Outdoor Sports: Interspersed within the residential section of the campus are tennis courts, volleyball courts and basketball courts.
Field Sports:The campus has a regular football field where in addition to football, residents can participate in baseball, cricket and athletics. Separate cricket practice nets are also provided. An outdoor 200 Mtr synthetic track interspersed with other field event facilities provides a unique facility for all the residents.
Sailing: Four compact catamaran sailboats, a rowing and a life boat on the lake provide the opportunity for the students to sail and learn boat work and life saving at TMI.
Swimming Pool: The 25 metre outdoor heated competition swimming pool equipped with diving platforms up to 10 metres in height is the focus of the main Sports Complex. Adjacent to the main swimming pool is a smaller pool with a uniform depth of one metre for the express purpose of training non-swimmers.
The campus is equipped with a modern and well equipped Primary Health Care Centre. The Medical Centre includes three beds, an operating theatre for minor surgical procedures, a pathological laboratory and a dispensary for common generic formulations. Under an agreement, the Medical Centre is manned at night by a doctor on secondment from Lokmanya Hospital, Nigdi.
The Talegaon Medical College provides medical professionals, including senior specialists to provide a high level of medical care. Cases requiring a more elaborate medical facility can be quickly and easily transported to Talegaon for attention at the main hospital that houses the Talegaon Medical College.
TMI has its own ambulance permanently stationed on campus and is available 24x7 if ever required by campus residents.
The campus has a Shopping Complex where the daily basic needs of all residents can be met. Vendors include a provisions store, a hairdresser, a tailor, a fast food outlet and a fax/stationery outlet. The vendors are carefully monitored for the quality of their products and services as well as the reasonableness of prices.
There is a regularly scheduled bus service between the campus and Talegaon. On weekends, a more intensive schedule is provided to serve both staff as well as students. Talegaon is very well connected to Pune and Lonavala by local trains, and the latter is a major transit stop for trains and buses to Mumbai.
A modern laundry capable of handling the entire load generated by campus residents is located on site. The equipment has been specifically selected to ensure that all campus residents are assured of a high quality of cleaning in completely hygienic surroundings.
Axis Bank's Pimpri-Chinchwad branch provides all essential banking facilities on campus. The nearest ATM is also of AXIS Bank.
