Sathish Chander Dhawan Government College was established in 1920. It was earlier known as Imperial College. Later it was changed to Govt. College, Ludhiana. The college provides a green environment with its lush green trees, flowers, and lawns. The students can avail of various scholarships offered by the state and central government. Eligible students must apply on the prescribed time to receive these incentives.

The students can avail of the scholarships provided by the University. The Punjab Education Board also declares scholarships. The Central government provides scholarships based on merit. The SC, ST, and OBC category students can avail the scholarships provided by the Indian Government and the State government.

The students whose parental annual income is less than 25,000 and who have scored above 50% or more can avail National Loan Scholarships. These loans are free from interest and can be paid in instalments after 3 years of completion of the course.

The SC, ST, Vimukt caste and low-income group students will be provided Book Grant and concession as per the terms of the college or the University.

The students who are permanent residents of Punjab and whose parental income is less than INR 2,50,000 can avail Post Metric Scholarship Scheme. The student must belong to the SC category to avail of this benefit.

The students whose parental income is less than INR 2,50,000 and who does not belong to the SC or backward castes can avail Low-income class scholarship.

The students hailing from Punjab, belonging to SC category and having parental income less than INR 2,50,000 can avail scholarships under the State Scheduled Caste Scheme.

The children of army employees or officers who were killed or handicapped during Indo-China war, Sri Lanka army action or Indo-Pak war can avail concessions like full fee concession, book & Stationery expenses, hostel expense exemption, etc as per the eligibility.

The students who are blind and belong to the BPL who join any course in the college are exempted from paying the fees.

The needy students are provided help from the Red Cross fund and Student welfare fund.

Students who have siblings studying in any govt college in the same station are required to pay only 50% of the fee once they obtain a certificate of the same from the principal of the institution. SCD admission is done merit-based.
