Reviews About Sankardev College, Shillong

Bachelor of Science [B.Sc] (Zoology), batch of 2017

The class starts at 8:45 everyday, and there are upto 6-7 periods per day. Projects/Assignment are given to all the classes in different course to help us understands the structure of different topics.

Teachers are very friendly, and the methods they use are very interesting and make us listen/curious more about any section/part they teach us.

My days in Sankardev College are very memorable, I got to do things that i havn't did before (singing and dancing). All the students are very kind and friendly and we got to discuss or talk about anything. My overall experience in this college is excellence.

No students are formed as a group to do anything for the societies, except only when we get an order from the government/institution to represent the college in any programmes, or in a society.

All festivals like sports, college weeks, teachers day, children days are conducted to entertain the teachers or students.

Life is great, i feel like a different person when i am in that college, even though i'm not that kind of person who interact or be friendly with the teachers like other students. I learned a lot.

About Sankardev College, Shillong

The Shrimanta Sankardev Cultural Centre founded Sankardev College on 2nd September 1962, as a night college, in its own premises.  It admitted students for the Pre-university (P.U) and the three years course leading to the Bachelor’s of Arts (B.A) degree. Only eleven students hailing from various communities took admission in the first year of P.U course. Instructions were given by only seven teachers working on part-time basis in the college. It became a full-fledged day-college in 1963 with the B.A courses still running in the night shift. The college was affiliated to Guwahati University for the bachelor’s degrees.
The college started teaching courses for the Bachelor’s degree of Science (B.Sc) degree in 1973. With the coming of the North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) at Shillong in 1973, the college sought affiliation with NEHU for its various bachelor’s degree courses. Now its P.U courses are replaced by the Higher Secondary courses of two years duration.
Keeping with its motto, “Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya” (Lead me from Darkness to Light)  it is the endeavour of the College to dissipate the darkness of ignorance with the light of knowledge. Therefore, students from all parts of India especially the North Eastern States are accommodated in the college and self supporting students are given a chance to pursue Higher Education in the Morning Shift. The College does not aim at churning out students with only a degree in hand, but better human beings ready to face the challenges of life.
