S.P. Mandali's Prin.L.N.Welingkar Institute of Management Development & Research popularly known as WeSchool is a progressive institute offering advanced education since 1977. Accredited by the NBA, their Mumbai campus is renowned for their PGDM programmes in Retail Management, Healthcare and Rural Management.

Students have shared mixed reviews on the compact yet charged campus. Loaded with various facilities and amenities, Welingkar Mumbai provides students with the ideal environment to nurture their minds. The faculty is pronounced at WeSchool with a ratio of 1:17. However, college-goers feel that teaching methods can be improved at Welingkar, by implementing innovative pedagogy.

There are however multiple upsides to studying at Welingkar, as the college has much to offer in terms of campus life, academics and infrastructure.

Superior in Academia

Welingkar Mumbai is proud of its faculty and student ratio, creating the perfect balance for students to find themselves a mentor during their program tenure. Candidates will have the opportunity to interact with industry professionals and accomplished teaching staff. 

The course curriculum varies for each department and specialisation at Welingkar. Students find the overall structure of the course up-to-date, however some have hinted at the lack of innovation in the faculty’s pedagogy. On the whole, students at Welingkar praise the faculty’s supportive nature when it comes to sharing notes and presentations. The assessments are easy, and the marking system is generous. Students usually face no difficulties passing an academic year. 

Exams are conducted in a trimester system and papers are constructed with both MCQ and subjective questions. Moreover, the grading system carried out at Welingkar has aided in an indiscriminate scoring arrangement.

Advanced courses such as Masters in Human Resource Management, PGDM and Masters in Marketing Management are the most sought after at Welignkar. Some of these programs have industry collaborations with entities such as SAS, DXC Technology, MTNL-CETTM and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce. Program fees range from INR 31,1830 to INR 18.8 Lac which is steep according to some students.

A 21st Century Campus

Welingkar Mumbai is designed in a contemporary fashion, located in a prime area with excellent connectivity. If students are travelling from afar, they can avail the local trains or cabs. Given the fact that the college is in the heart of Mumbai, there is an evidential amount of space crunch. However, within its boundaries, the authorities have managed to provide students with the amenities such as Conference room, Innovation lab, Co-innovation lab and Library with over 40,000 books.

Students have often highlighted on various search portals the fact that the college lacks greenery, and playgrounds. However, the authorities aim at engaging its students with innovation competitions, projects and research, rather than spend time on sports and extracurriculars. 

With the implementation of the latest technology in the campus, the college authorities aim to provide students with a space to be self-aware, have a progressive outlook on new-age industry trends and requirements. 

Apart from the basic amenities, students can access designated spaces such as reading halls, brainstorming rooms, and research labs which will help them to maximise their knowledge and expertise outside of classrooms.

Celebrates Diversity and Inclusiveness

Welingkar Mumbai attracts students from diverse cultural backgrounds, giving each individual a platform to explore the best version of themselves. There is no bar when it comes to caste, creed, region, gender, religion or ethnicity. 

Fee reductions are applicable for candidates from OBC/ SEBC/ EBC/ EWS/ NT/ DT-VJ/ SBC/ TFWS/ SC/ ST and Students with disabilities. Moreover, Freeships or Scholarships are available for candidates belonging to the Reserved Category / Economically Backward Section admitted through CAP Round.

Infrastructure-wise WeSchool’s CSR initiative towards the physically disabled has arranged to install the following amenities to make the campus more inclusive. 

• Specially designed toilets & wash basins with adjustable heights are available for physically disabled persons.
• Ramp with stainless steel handle rail is available from parking to the ground floor.
• Wheelchairs are available on campus.
• Five lifts are available in the building to access all floors.

Executive Dress Code

Welingkar Mumbai follows a strict dress code being a B-school. The on-campus dress code from Monday to Friday is semi-formals, and smart casuals and Indian wear on saturday and sunday. In case of formal occasions students must follow the dress code mentioned below.

Other important pointers authorities are stern of are given below.

• All students must take personal grooming seriously, like neat hair, nails and makeup. Boys must either be clean shaven or maintain a well groomed moustache or beard. 
• Jeans are strictly off-limits at Welingkar except on weekends. 
• Candidates must wear modest attire on weekends. 

Precise Code of Conduct

Welingkar Mumbai although has a liberal outlook when it comes to academics. Although, it has certain unbending rules and regulations which students must adhere to. Classroom and campus etiquettes must be followed as mentioned below:

• Students must be punctual for lectures, and submit assignments on time. 
• Mobile phones must only be used for academic purposes on campus. 
• In the classroom students must keep their phones in silent mode or switched off. 
• Consumption of food and beverages (except water) are probitied for consumption inside classrooms. 
• The campus is a smoke-free zone. Contravention will be dealt with seriously. 
• Possession or consumption of narcotics and addictive substances will amount to expulsion. 
• Strict protocols are in place for sexual harassment, students will face disciplinary actions if found guilty. 

All other measures to maintain campus decorum can be found in the student handbook. Students must act accordingly to lead trouble-free tenure at WeSchool.

Comfortable Hostel and Food

Welingkar Mumbai provides accommodation for students at a cost of INR 2.05 LPA. Students find the hostel fees slightly on the higher end, as it lacks primary facilities like food and house 3 students per room. 

Moreover, the hostel is available on a first-come-first-serve basis and is situated 2 kms away from the main campus. Other basic amenities that comes with the hostel rooms are, Air conditioning, Fridge, Bed, Pillows, Cupboard, Iron and stand etc.

Since the hostel does not have its own mess, there are several eateries in and around the accommodation provided by the college, from where students can enjoy tea and simple snacks. Besides maintaining basic decorum, students do have to adhere to the rules and regulations per the third party hostel authorities. 

Adequate Security Measures

Welingkar Mumbai displays a modern campus infrastructure with high levels of security with CCTV cameras and security personnels on each floor and exit and entry points. Students feel safe on-campus due to its reliable surveillance systems. 

Authorities encourage students to be actively involved in ensuring the campus is secure, by strictly maintaining the code of conduct pertaining to non-involvement with political or religious groups, and violence on campus. 

Occasional Events and Co-curriculars

The B-school has many clubs in every programme, where events like seminars, guest lectures and innovation competitions and more are conducted a few times a year. Welingkar Mumbai focuses on developing managerial and leadership schools through the campus activities. 

Authorities also conduct a good deal of hackathons at the campus which help students get an idea of how to work in a collaborative environment to come up with effective solutions. Other GPI events are also organised by student bodies and authorities. 

Eminent Placement Records

The placement assistance provided by Welingkar Mumbai is decent, with students getting opportunities in top companies such as Accenture, Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, Deloitte, Schindler EY and more. 

Placements for each department are operated individually, with the average placement package at INR 12.25 LPA. Students have expressed their satisfaction with the package and placement rate of 85%. 

Additionally, the college provides executive and internship placements for students during their course tenure. Special attention and preparations are given to students appearing for interviews 5th semester onwards. 

However, students from PGDM Media and Entertainment have had a bad experience with the placement assistance as there were not too many media firms which came to the campus for recruitment. This left a bad taste in the mouth of the college-goers.
