NIST is promoted by SM Charitable Educational Trust. National Institute of Science and Technology offers undergraduate, postgraduate and PGDM courses with a quality education in the field of Engineering, Management and Computer Application. The college conducts different admission procedures to evaluate candidates for the admission to different programmes offered by the college. The college offers a full-time B.Tech course of 4 years duration to the applicants with 7 specializations. Lateral Entry is also offered to the aspirants. The college offers the B.Tech program in 7 specializations. Admission to B.Tech is done based on the JEE entrance examination.

B.Tech
  • Candidates must have passed their 10+2 (or equivalent examination) with  Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry / Biology / Biotechnology / Computer Science with a minimum of 45% (Aggregate) in Physics, Mathematics & Chemistry /Biology /Biotechnology /Computer Science is a must. 
  • For admission into 1st year, the B.Tech program a student has to appear for Joint Entrance Examination (JEE-Main) conducted by CBSE 
B.Sc
  • The Honours programme in B.Sc at NIST, Odisha requires the students to have completed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics from a recognized Board.
B.Com

The college presently offers a few postgraduate courses which are M.Tech, MCA and MBA. The college offers M.Tech in various specializations. The mode of admission to the M.Tech program is based on the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), for candidates who have not written the GATE exam are supposed to go through the online test OJEE

National Institute of Science and Technology PG Admission - Eligibility, Fees, and Admission Criteria

For admission to postgraduate programs candidates must fulfill the eligibility requirements as prescribed by the College. All admissions are made strictly under the college rules in force at the time of admission. The admission for M.Tech is based on GATE Score. Non-GATE candidates are required to appear at an On-line Test, GATE candidates are exempted from this test. GATE qualified candidates pass or appear in MCA examination from a recognized university with CGPA 6.5 or 60% marks only for M. Tech in Computer Science and Computer science & IT branches.

  • The candidate should haveB.Tech/B.E examination from a recognized university with CGPA 6.5 (10 point scale) or 60% marks.
  • Admission to M.Tech. programs are strictly based on rank obtained by candidates in GATE.
MCA
  • The candidate should have obtained at least 50% (45% in case of candidate belonging to SC/ST category) in the qualifying examination.
  • Candidates who have passed Graduation in BCA, B. Sc. (IT/ Computer Science/IST/ITM) with mathematics as a subject at 10+2 or graduation level in approved institutes of other states are allowed to take admission in Private colleges as per their OJEE rank.
MBA
  • Any graduate a pass or appeared with a minimum of 50% at graduation (+3) level.
  • Admission to MBA programs is based on OJEE / CMAT / MAT / CAT / XAT scores.
M.Sc
  • For M.Sc, the applicants must have completed their B.Sc in the relevant subjects with 45% aggregate marks or in the Honours subject.
  • Reserved category students get a relaxation of 5% at National Institute of Science and Technology.

For the first time BPUT has introduced three choices for students to complete their graduation:

  • B.Tech Regular: Traditional B.Tech degree with 190 credits
  • B.Tech Degree (Honours): In addition to the 190 credits, interested students can take one extra paper each semester (additional credit points) starting from 3rd to 7th from his own discipline.
  • B.Tech with Major and Minor Specialization: Interested students can pursue their studies in their discipline (190 credit points) in which they have been admitted (as major) and minor in another discipline. (Benefit: Will help students to have dual specialization and thereby increase their job prospect in multiple domains)

Admission to NIST is done based on JEE for B.Tech. To facilitate students who have not appeared JEE Main a special OJEE is being organized on 25th July. Any graduate with a pass or appearing in OJEE / CMAT / MAT / CAT / XAT are eligible to take admission in a two-year full-time M.B.A. program with a minimum of 50% at graduation ( +3) level.
