NIST offers several scholarships to students studying at the institution. The National Institute of Science and Technology scholarships help students eradicate their financial burden and help them focus towards their studies. Each scholarship is based on academic performance, attendance, and extracurricular activities. Scholarships provided by the National Institute of Science and Technology are listed below.

Merit Scholarship for B.Tech

Merit scholarships are awarded to studying pursuing B.Tech programs who fulfil the following eligibility criteria.

Criteria Waiver/Discount Amount (in %)

To be eligible for scholarships starting in the first year, the specified prerequisites need to be satisfied:

 
  • JEE Rank <=50,000
  •     JEE Rank <= 1,00,000
  •     JEE Rank <= 1,50,000
  • 100% of the tuition fee
  • 50% of the tuition fee
  • 30% of the tuition fee

To be eligible for scholarships starting in the second year, the specified prerequisites need to be satisfied:

 
  • First-year CGPA >= 9, no backlogs in any semester
  •   First-year CGPA >= 8.5, no backlogs in any semester
  • First-year CGPA >= 8, no backlogs in any semester
  • 100% of the tuition fee
  • 50% of the tuition fee
  • 30% of the tuition fee

The following scholarship is offered to B.Tech students based on their scores in classes X and XII.

  • Marks >=90% or 9.5 CGPA in 10th and 12th grades. 
  • Marks >=85% or 9.0 CGPA in 10th and 12th grades.
  • Marks >=75% or 8.0 CGPA in 10th and 12th grades.
  • 30% of tuition fee
  • 20% of tuition fee
  • 10% of tuition fee

To be eligible for scholarships starting in the second year, the specified prerequisites need to be satisfied:

 
  • First Year CGPA >= 9, no backlogs in any semester
  • First Year CGPA >= 8.5, no backlogs in any semester
  • First Year CGPA >= 8, no backlogs in any semester
  • 30% of tuition fee
  • 20% of tuition fee
  • 10% of tuition fee

Merit Scholarship for Lateral Entry

Merit scholarships are available exclusively for Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, & Electrical and Electronics Engineering lateral entry students. (Diploma programmes should have identical branches.) This scholarship is not available for students from LE CS (CSE, CST, IT) and LE ECE disciplines.

To be eligible for scholarships starting in the joining year, the specified prerequisites need to be satisfied:

 
  • Marks >=70% or 7.5 CGPA in 10th and Marks >=90% or 9.5 CGPA in Diploma.
  • Marks >=70% or 7.5 CGPA in 10th and Marks >=80% or 8.5 CGPA in Diploma.
  • Marks >=65% or 7.0 CGPA in 10th and Marks >=65% or 7.0 CGPA in Diploma.
  • 100% of the tuition fee
  • 50% of the tuition fee
  • 30% of the tuition fee

To be eligible for this scholarship the following prerequisites are needed to be satisfied.

  • Second Year CGPA >= 8, no backlogs in any semester
  •   Second Year CGPA >= 7.5, no backlogs in any semester
  • Second Year CGPA >= 7, no backlogs in any semester
  • 100% of the tuition fee
  • 50% of the tuition fee
  • 30% of the tuition fee

M.Tech Scholarship

  • 30% TFW for securing a mark >=80% or 8.5 CGPA in graduation. To avail of the scholarship in the second year, the student must have no backlog in any semester with a CGPA >=8.5.
  • 20% TFW for securing a mark >=70% or 7.5 CGPA in graduation. To avail of the scholarship in the second year, the student must have no backlog in any semester with a CGPA >=8.5.

M.Sc Scholarship

  • 30% TFW for securing a mark >=80% or 8.5 CGPA in graduation. To avail of the scholarship in the second year, the student must have no backlog in any semester with a CGPA >=8.5.
  • 20% TFW for securing a mark >=70% or 7.5 CGPA in graduation. To avail of the scholarship in the second year, the student must have no backlog in any semester with a CGPA >=8.5.

PhD Scholarship

  • Full-time PhD scholars would get a monthly fellowship of Rs25,000 for 3 years.
  • Students may obtain financial aid from external funding agencies, including UGC, CSIR, NBHM, DST, DAE, and industry.

Sibling Scholarship

  • Sibling scholarships are available to the immediate siblings of a student or alumni on a one-time basis. The amount is Rs 10,000.

Employee Immediate Relationship Scholarship

  • Spouses or children of permanent NIST employees will receive a 20% tuition fee waiver annually while pursuing their studies.

Research Assistantship 

The institute will offer the scholarship to students for research purposes or to assist faculty in research. Up to 5 students from either the 3rd or 4th year will be awarded this scholarship after a selection process. Students usually need to have achieved a 9.0 CGPA without any backlog. Selected students would receive a monthly stipend of Rs. 3000 for three months.

Teaching Assistantship

The Institute will fund this scholarship for the students to enable faculty to support academic teaching activities(e.g., lab support, grading, etc.). A maximum of 5 students per batch (3rd year or 4th year students) based on the selection process will receive this scholarship. The department is eligible to get a TA if seats are filled >= 80%. Typically, students must have secured a 9.0 CGPA without a back paper. Selected students will receive an amount of Rs. 3000 per month for five months.

Industry Collaboration Scholarship

The Industry Collaboration Scholarship is offered to students who participate in a funded industry collaboration project. The scholarship or awards are given based on the agreement made with the relevant organisation, client, or industry.

Externally Funded Scholarship

  • Manas Ranjan Sahu Scholarship. (Will be given on the foundation day.)
  • Shiv Shankar Bisoi Scholarship. (Will be given on the foundation day.)
  • External Scholarship. This scholarship will be funded by alumni, external individuals, organisations, or NGOs.
