The institution is named after Maharani Lakshmi Ammanni who was the queen of the Wodeyar dynasty and was well known for her public spirit and political foresight. Her contribution to the strength of the Mysore kingdom was noteworthy. The founder Principal Smt .M C Vedavalli and other management staff members laid a firm foundation for the college and was responsible for development of the college by its inclusion under 2(f) and 12(B) of UGC.
