Hindustan Institute Of Maritime Training (HIMT) was established in 1998 by a merchant navy engineer in Chennai. The institute believes that education had played a vital role in the success of an individual. HMT's achievement of its mission is guided by a Governing Council, which prioritizes the institute’s goals. The institute offers full-time courses in the field of nautical science and marine engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate level. HIMT Chennai is affiliated to Indian Maritime University with the main mission of the institute is to make the best marines in the world who will protect and respect the global environment and are strong enough to face all global aspects.

  • HIMT maintains a Spacious Library with the latest Technical Books & Magazines. In addition to a vast collection of books and publications, the latest Merchant Shipping notices and rules, a databank of Shipping companies and other marine links are also available.   • Computer labs include interactive computer-based training (CBT) programs like Maritime English, Engine Room Simulator, planned maintenance System, ARPA, ROC, Safe Navigation and many more.
  • Academy has a separate Kitchen to prepare Hygienic Food. Food served is of mixed cuisine (includes North Indian Style, South Indian style, etc) to help candidates to get accustomed to various types of food preparations. The diet is well balanced and the food is wholesome.

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training Eligibility Criteria:

The institute offers undergraduate courses in the fields of marine engineering and nautical science. The eligibility criteria for those courses are given in the table below:

B.Tech
  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 with PCM and English as subjects and 60% marks in PCM and at least 50% marks in English
  • On the basis of IMUCET scores, Psychometric Test, Medical examination, Panel Interview, and Pre-Sea Training
B.Tech (Lateral)
  • Candidates must have passed a three-year Diploma Course in Mechanical/Marine Engineering from the colleges approved by AICTE or State Board of Technical Education with a minimum 60% of aggregate marks.
  • Candidate must have passed English with at least 50% marks in either 10th or 10+2 standard.
  • On the basis of IMUCET scores, Psychometric Test, Medical examination, Panel Interview, and Pre-Sea Training
B.Sc
  • Candidates must have passed 10+2 with PCM and English as subjects and 60% marks in PCM and at least 50% marks in English 
PG Diploma 
  • Candidate should have B.E. / B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture with a minimum of 50% marks.
  • Candidate must also pass English with minimum 50% marks in 10th or 12th standard.
General Purpose Rating
  • Candidates must have passed class X with Science and Mathematics as subjects and 40% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in English alone
Catering Personnel
  • Candidates must have passed class X or XII from a recognized board with 40% marks in aggregate and 40% marks in English at 10th and 12th standard.

Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training Hostel Details:

HIMT infrastructure facilities include well-designed dormitories with all the basic amenities. Mattresses and pillow covers will be supplied to each cadet on the date of joining for their use during the training. Academy has a separate Kitchen to prepare Hygienic Food.
