Handique college, Guwahati was originally built in a small building positioned within the surroundings of Panbazar Girls’ High School and it was then known as ‘Gauhati Girls' College’. The current name of the college exhibits a humble attempt to honour the legacy of the Late Radha Kanta Handique by generations of its stakeholders with a deep knowledge of gratitude and respect.

Handique College Admissions is strictly done on the basis of merit. The merit list will be concluded by the admission committee and the decision of the admission committee is final. For admissions, students can apply on the official website of the college.

It has been designated as Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi Girls’ Hostel, after the notable poetess, the late Nirmal Prabha Bordoloi, who was one of the renowned alumnae of the institution.
