Government Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram is also known as Thiruvananthapuram Medical College and Trivandrum Medical College. The campus houses several hospitals and institutions in addition to Medical College Hospital (MCH), including the Colleges of Nursing and Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Regional Cancer Centre, Thiruvananthapuram Dental College, Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, the Priyadarshini Institute of Paramedical Sciences and the Sree Avittom Thirunal Hospital for Women and Children (SAT Hospital). The Regional Institute of Ophthalmology (RIO), also a part of the college, is being upgraded to a national-level independent institute. The School of Optometry is also on campus. Although the college was initially affiliated with the University of Kerala since its founding in 1951, since 2010 it has been affiliated with the Kerala University of Health Sciences. NTA has announced NEET 2024 exam date. The exam will be conducted on May 05, 2024.

Government Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram seeks to provide holistic medical education beyond excellence and to ensure students evolve as caring and courteous medical professionals, with excellent clinical skills and theoretical knowledge. The college was dedicated by Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and is Kerala's oldest medical college. The college was known in early records as Medical College (of Thiruvananthapuram) since it was the only medical institute in the state at its inception. The college follows the Kerala model of health care. The state has maintained health indices at par with developed nations, well above the national averages. This has been studied by several agencies for use in other states of India and developing nations. Government Medical College admission offers various UG/ PG/ Ph.D programmes for the academic year 2020.

All the medical degrees at Government Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram have a duration of 4 ½ years. The B.Sc course is 3 years long and the B.Pharm course is 4 years long. MBBS graduates are also mandated to complete one year of rotational internship.

In order to apply for undergraduate medical degrees at Government Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram, the applicant must have passed their 12th standard examination in the science stream with an aggregate of 50%. They are also required to write the national level test NEET. Admissions to the B.Sc and B.Pharm are granted based on merit in the 12th standard examination.

Government Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram offers courses as a Doctor of Medicine (MD) and a Master of Surgery (MS), as well as a Masters in Science (M.Sc.) and Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm). The duration of the MD and MS courses are 3 years, while the M.Sc. and M.Pharm degrees have a duration of 2 years.

In order to apply for any of any M.D. or M.S. degrees, the applicant must have passed their final year MBBS as well as finished their one-year internship and given the NEET-PG. For the M.Sc or M.Pharm, the candidate should have completed a bachelor's degree in a relevant subject.

Government Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram offers 10 different courses at the Doctoral and Superspeciality level. It offers specialties as both DM and M.Ch. The various courses at the superspeciality level such as Cardiology, Neurosurgery, etc., take 3 years to complete. A Ph.D. also takes 3 years to complete.

In order to apply for the Doctoral courses available at Government Medical College of Thiruvananthapuram, the applicant must have completed their Master’s degree in Science at a recognized institution. In order to apply for a Ph.D. in Neurosciences, the applicant must have completed their M.Sc Neurosciences. In order to apply for the DM superspeciality courses, the candidate must have completed their MD and their MS for the M.Ch degree.
