About Chandernagore Government College, [CGC] Hooghly
Chandernagore College became affiliated to the University of Burdwan in 1960. The Golden Jubilee of the college was celebrated in February 1982. In 2002, the college was accorded the status of a constituent college under the University of Burdwan.
There has been a steady and regular expansion of higher education in the college over the years, the landmarks being the establishment of a language laboratory in the French department in 2000, the introduction of the post graduate courses in Geography and Bengali in 2001 and 2006 respectively, the introduction of the Honours course in Computer Science in 2006 and the opening of a study centre of Netaji Subhash Open University in 1999, to name only a few.
The college was evaluated by the National Accreditation and Assessment Council (NAAC) in 2007 and was awarded the B++ rank. In 2008, Honours courses in Education, Environmental Science and Sociology were introduced. The one of its kind Post-graduate course in French, not taught anywhere else in West Bengal, was also introduced the same year.
Chandernagore College is recognized by the University Grants Commission under section 2 (f) (1956) and Section 12 (B) (1972). The distinguished faculty members of this institution hail from the prestigious West Bengal Senior Educational Services/ West Bengal Educational Services Cadre. At present the college offers courses (both Honours and Pass) in all major subjects in Science, Humanities and Commerce streams, including Post-graduate courses in Bengali, Geography and French. The students of this college are also encouraged to participate in co-curricular (such as literary quizzes) and extra- curricular (such as sports) activities for their all-round development.
Candidates passing Higher Secondary or equivalent examination (10+2) in 2014, as a regular student under West Bengal Higher Secondary Council/ Central Board of Secondary Education/ Indian School Certificate Examination or from any other recognized Board / Council are eligible to apply for B.A. / B.Sc. / B.Com. courses and would be evaluated on the basis of marks obtained in best of five (05) subjects, each one of 100 marks including one (1) vernacular subject (Bengali / English) and three conventional subjects. Candidates who have passed from National Open School / Rabindra Mukta Vidyalaya are also eligible for admission.

The Post Graduate admission in the college takes place after obtaining the merit list from Burdwan University in respective subjects.
