California State University, Sacramento which was earlier known as Sacramento State College was founded in 1947, but not at its current location. Sacramento State College was originally housed on the grounds of Sacramento City College (then named Sacramento Junior College). Construction on CSUS began in May 1951 on what was a combination of hop fields and peach orchards.

All students enrolled at a CSU campus pay a per-semester systemwide tuition fee, in addition to campus mandatory fees.
