Shreyas Sonar's Review on COEP, Pune

The college is established in 1857 and has a rich history. Sir Vishveshwarya who is the pioneer of engineering in India is a COEP alum. Many COE's IAS officers and highly ranked personals have studied here. The alumni network is huge and diverse, which is an asset for any college.

Infrastructure is great.The main building is a UNESCO world heritage side so what more can you expect.The girl's hostel is 11-story building with an additional building beside it.There is around 9-10 hostel for boys in all.But the hostel allotment is strictly merit-based and if your CGPA isn't good you may have to stay outside or have to take a rental flat.But almost every girl get the hostel and around 70% boys get a hostel room. A mess is considered to be the best in Pune and it cheap too.Wifi speed is not that great.

The candidate must have minimum 50% marks in HSC exam. The entrance exam is MHT CET but may change to JEE MAIN in coming years but it completely depends on education department of government. The cutoff is generally the cutoff for COEP civil is above 165 out of 200 or a rank below 1000 for general category and 4-5 marks below for OBC category.To be on a safer side you must target above 170 marks.

There is a perfect balance between academic and extracurricular activities. We have around 50 clubs which cater to the interests of every student. We have four major student organised fest which enhance the management skills and communication skills of students. The classes are from 9-5 but we have around 5-6 hours of teaching and labs everyday. Method of teaching is good but there are some loopholes like any other college.The best part is that COEP is an autonomous institute and is on the verge of becoming an independent University by next year. So our syllabus is up to date and industry oriented moreover it is quite similar to what is followed by top IIT's in the country.

The course fee is minimal around Rs 80000 (INR) per year for general category and 50% of the sum for OBC-NCL students.

The college hosts more than 50 clubs which cater to the needs and interests of any and every individual. There are 4 major fests-

1.Mindspark(best technical fest in Maharashtra after IIT Bombay)

2.Impressions(cultural fest and quite renowned)

3.Zest(sports fest and considered among top 10 festivals in India)

4.Regatta (Is the annual festival of boat club and it is in the 90th edition now) Regatta is the unique festival as no engineering college has a boat club in India.

And every COEPian is proud of Regatta. Overall the college is buzzing with different types of events around the year.
