Placements and Internships

4

  • I have got placed with a very reputed firm for a good stipend.
  • A lot of top-performing companies from the field of finance, marketing, consulting, operations, etc. visit JBIMS campus.
  • Especially Finance is known to be the forte of JBIMS and hence banks & other financial firms make a beeline to recruit from our campus. FMCGs would come close second in terms of their presence on the campus during the placement season and Consults being the third.
  • The average salary for the batch of 2016 was Rs. 18.13 Lakh PA and the highest salary offered was Rs. 26 Lakh PA.
  • The placements for JBIMS are 100% unless someone opts to sit out.
  • The alumni network of the campus is the best thing about JBIMS in my opinion.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

2

  • The campus at JBIMS is very small with a moderate-size red building in the middle of it.
  • JBIMS does not have its own hostel. However, there are 25 seats reserved for JBIMS in the Mumbai University hostel which is hardly sufficient to accommodate 120 students and hence the seats are allocated on the basis of performance in the qualifying entrance examination, and the rest have to look for accommodation outside.
  • The hostel fee for the Mumbai University hostel is Rs. 6,500 per year.
  • There are good flat options outside in nearby areas like Colaba, Churchgate, Parel, Marine lines, etc where 1-BHK flat costs around Rs. 25k-30k per month.
  • The food in the college is average in taste but affordable. One plate of a normal meal(Veg) costs around Rs. 50.
  • The quality of classrooms is above average.
  • Dining halls and Labs are not applicable for the college. However, the library of JBIMS is one of the best B-school libraries in India with access to more than 40k books.
  • The WiFi in the campus is good but needs improvement.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • The admission procedure for JBIMS typically has been varying in the last few years. While last year there was a separate admission process by the college comprising of GDs and interviews along with the entrance exam scores. However, this year JBIMS took admissions through the CAP rounds of the DTE.
  • I had taken CMAT, CAT, XAT, etc in a bid to take admission in JBIMS and my CMAT score i.e. AIR 4 proved to be good enough to secure me a seat in JBIMS.
  • The typical cut-offs for JBIMS vary from category to category. Since I am from the Outside Maharashtra category, the cut-off for us was 99.99(with an exception of 2-3 99.98 students making it).
  • The cut-offs for MH general category is 99.92+ as per the past trends. The cut-offs for other categories are more volatile but it can safely be assumed that it is 95+ overall.

Academics and Faculty

4.5

  • Once again the academics is something which makes JBIMS what it is. The quality and method of teaching are amazing.
  • The guest faculties visiting the campus are one of the best in their respective fields. The permanent faculties are good in imparting knowledge which leads to a good overall concept clarity among the students.
  • The college has been functioning for the last 51 years and one can easily imagine the kind of experience JBIMS has when it comes to imparting knowledge.
  • The daily routine of JBIMS keeps us moderately busy. Our days and nights are spent attending lectures, guest lectures, seminars, working on assignments, participating in competitions and last but not the least, hanging out on Marine drive.

Fees and Scholarships

5

  • The course fee for MMS degree at JBIMS for a general candidate is approx. Rs 1,00,000 per annum.
  • There are some internal scholarships available to students on the basis of need and merit about which they can know when they join the college.
  • Anything between a 2-5 number of students gets scholarships and it is sufficient because very few people need the scholarships as JBIMS has such an affordable fee structure.
  • Loans are not needed at all, at least I have not seen anyone from my campus go for an education loan while studying in JBIMS. However, loans are readily available to any JBIMS student because of the prestige of the college.
  • Banks like SBI, ICICI, etc provide education loans at affordable interest rates.

Clubs and Associations

3.5

  • There are different clubs in JBIMS to manage different type of interactions from the outside world or within the campus.
  • There are committees to manage placements, alumini interactions, infrastructure, entrepreneurship, academics, web interactions, etc.
  • The main festival of JBIMS is Prayaag which is the cultural festival of JBIMS. It is celebrated with a lot of fervour and participants from across the country come & become a part of this beautiful event.
  • The life in college in general is enjoyable.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Eligibility criteria for joining the Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, [JBIMS] Mumbai is clearing the MHT CET and CAT scores were considered. Around 1700 people were shortlisted and finally 120 were selected through a process of Essay writing, Group Discussion and Personal Interviews. The cutoff for CAT is around 90 percentile but the people who make it to the course are usually the ones who score more than 98 percentile. For CET the cutoffs are even higher.
