Placements and Internships

3.5

  • I recently went on an internship to Egypt for a month in my 4th year, though B.Arch requires a formal internship period to be served in 5th or final year. This internship is applied for on the basis of the portfolio we make in four years of architecture school. The stipend receives during this internship may vary from firm to firm between Rs.4000 to Rs.8000 across the country.
  • Starting salaries for a fresh graduate may vary from Rs. 12000 to Rs. 20000
Architecture is a course where mass placements don't happen, though our two batches of Alumni have been placed in top firms in Bangalore and the country. Placement here is a matter of individual hard work and talent and not about the college name.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

2.5

  • There is no proper hostel on campus, except for one off campus about 5km away for engineering students. Most of the students take up apartments for rent around college.
  • Approx cost of living including rent food etc should exceed Rs. 14000 if living alone in the room. In a sharing room, it may drop down to 8-10K.
The college has one canteen, food is okay. Not too much variety. Approx cost for a meal is Rs.60-70
  • Infrastructure needs an uplift, renovation, and fresh construction is currently happening in college. Wifi isn't great barely connects.
  • Library is well equipped, one of the best in Bangalore for Architecture.
MUST NOTE- College is 20kms away from the city. Just saying.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • One must appear for the NATA exam in order to apply to any college of architecture in India (apart from government colleges that accept JEE paper II scores)
BMS SA being a private college that takes in students through Common Entrance Test (CET) for students within Karnataka & COMED-K for students across the country.
COMED-K and CET release a rank list which is calculated based on the average of your NATA score (on 200) and Maths Score in Intermediate ( on 100)
Based on that list, the counseling process starts. In 2013, I managed to get BMSSA ( ranked number 4 on the list in Karnataka) with a COMEDK rank of 272.

Academics and Faculty

2.5

  • Daily routine is from 9am to 4pm
  • Forget about doing anything on the side on a regular basis if you plan on attending college regularly. It is 20 km's away from the city and the long college hours prevent one from attending any event in the city. You will need to skip a few classes but learn to maintain the balance.
  • Quality of teaching varies, teacher to teacher. Some great ones, some really awful ones. Architecture is a course where you can learn by yourself if you have the passion because it is all about practical knowledge at the end of the day.
Not the best college you could go to, but there are colleges much much worse. You will get to interact with the who's who of Bangalore's Architecture scene, so if you can make the best of the opportunity you're  good to go.

Fees and Scholarships

2

  • CET Fees- Rs. 50,000/- (approx) only for students who finished their 12th standard exams in Karnataka
  • COMED-K Fees- Rs. 1,60,000/- ( on Karnataka students)
  • Management Quota Fees- Rs. 2,60,000/- ( may vary from time to time)
  • No scholarships available, student loans are available, though. Architecture can be an expensive course with all the stationery items needed etc.
  • A large number of banks like SBI, SBBJ, ICICI, HDFC, PNB offer student loans.

Clubs and Associations

2.5

  • We have an editorial team, movie club, sports club and a design team that participates in design competitions.
  • Architecture school doesn't have a fest of its own, but we have a Zonal meet of Architecture schools called ZoNASA, and an annual meet called Annual NASA.
  • Life in college is okay, nothing to flaunt about.
