Placements and Internships

  • I have done summer internship in Rajasthan Cooperative Dairy Federation in my II year of study. Now I am doing my 6-month internship at NESTLE India Ltd. with a stipend of 5k monthly. Internships in NIFTEM are generally CRD(corporate resource division) organized and paid. Anywhere between 5-20k may be earned depending upon the profile. Key Companies: ITC, Nestle, Coca-Cola, Synthite , Bonn, Mrs. Bectors Cremica, Mother Dairy, Capital Foods, PepsiCo are key recruiters. Job profile: Since you become a food Techno manager, you are eligible for jobs from production executive to Marketing executive. So it depends on your interest, which field you choose. Though you get ample time to introspect via many internships to arrive at the conclusion of your forte. Salary: If I put an average, it will be unjust. Because depending on your caliber and your dream firm , you my get anywhere from 4-14 lap. Highest: 14 lakh package outside INDIA. Since its a new institution, right now only the first B.Tech batch of 2017 is placed and rest has to follow. More MTech batches are placed well.Keep a tab on the website for recent details. If you don't pick up higher studies, most probably you gonna be placed even you are below average . Alumni network is good but it will strengthen in due time. Recently the first Alumni meet was organized by CRD.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

5

  • There are 4 Hostels inside campus namely Brahmaputra, Sutlej(Boys) and Kaveri, Ganga(Girls). Hostel fee is included in the college fee.by the way its 5k per sem. REAL ECONOMICAL. Hostels have TV rooms, TT room, gyms, and mess. I must say, having been to many good colleges in various competition, NIFTEM hostels are real spacious and good. We even have a lift. And tuck shops. No need for PGs. Because Hostel stay is compulsory even if your aunt stays in front of the college which is not possible, you have to stay on campus. Its been done to ensure safety. The food is fine, I won't say its very good. It costs 26500 per month. Since your stay is regular. Per plate meal system is still not there in the mess. Infrastructure: centralized gym, god damn awesome optical cable LAN for laptops, unlimited WiFi, NKC i.e library, digital library, sports center, cafeteria, 5 huge pilot plants, 2 ports cabins for family and VIP stay, walking tracks and many more Labs are world class.By words, actually, world class. Best equipment , for which even industry people craves. We are even opening our college centered FSSAI lab here itself. Being MoFPI pampered child has its own advantages.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • NIFTEM is a central government institution under Ministry of Food Processing and Industries and which offers 1. B.Tech in Food Technology and Management 2. M.Tech in 5 fields under the main umbrella of Food sector. 3. PhD 4. MBA in Food and Agribusiness Management 5. Short term courses and workshops for food entrepreneurs, technologists and Enthusiasts. B.Tech Admission Process : To study here, you must have a Science-Mathematics background. Students are enrolled on the basis of their ranks in IIT-mains. It should be noted that NIFTEM doesn't take students through CSAB counselling, therefore, a separate admission form other than that of IIT-mains(Erstwhile AIEEE) has to be filled which is available on NIFTEM's website. Min percentage in 12th: 50%(including all subjects) Age limit: for 2017 admissions, General candidates should have been born on or after Oct. 01, 1991. SC/ST candidates, relaxation up to 5 years is given with respect to age limit in general candidate's case. Cut-Off: Merit list is prepared on the basis of IIT-Mains ranks. Competition is cool here, as compared to institutions of similar status. Counselling sessions: Generally process goes up to 3rd Counselling. This time, it was conducted online. Once enrolled, Go with the flow and Enjoy. M.Tech Admissions: Of what I know of my seniors: Please refer to the following link: http://www.niftem.ac.in/site/Internal_NIFTEM.aspx?menulevel=3&MenuID=53&MenuName=Admission%20Process%20(M.Tech.)

Academics and Faculty

5

  • Best thing: Saturdays are off! Class timings: anywhere between 9- 5, you may be summoned. Each class is 50 min. There is a 20 min break after 2 classes and lunch break after 4th class. After lunch, there are 3 scheduled classes in which a break of 10 mins is given before the last class. There are a mid-semester class tests of 20 marks, 3 quizzes, one library paper presentation, one assignment per sem. Not to forget, there are 5 marks for attendance too.The big bomb project is in VIII sem. Exams: keep a tab on your internals because final exams are all externals and no one can help you in that. Sometime attendance is a savior. Teachings : Generally Via presentation as all classes are equipped with screens, PC, projector and sound systems. ALL CLASSES. And fully air conditioned, you can't find any better in a govt. Institution. Quality is good, you will enjoy. If you like books then NKC is heaven for you. Its our library and is a Ship shaped building. We also have the digital library. Exp. In college: Its simply Classic. My experience cant is shared, without telling you about VAP. Village Adoption program is a unique thing about NIFTEM. You are actually allotted a village and you have to go along with your team for 10 days every semester. Build entrepreneurs and develop industries and much more. Its an amazing feeling which can be described only By experiencing it. College life is lovable and there is a lot to start.

Fees and Scholarships

4

  • Course Fee: B.Tech: around 74k per semester (just like other colleges), (my batch , it was 62.5k) Scholarship options: Three ways scholarships are provided: 1. Merit Scholarship: For Top 3 students of the batch , covers tuition fees and is given at the end of each year. 2. Merit cum means: For Top 5% meritorious students having a low family income(below 2.5 LPA) 3. Earn while you learn scheme: You may earn nice by working for projects and in the pilot plant. BTW, NIFTEM is planning for providing many more scholarships to those in need by linking with the Industry. Its in the process. If you need a loan, you may. It's easy as the university has a linkage with State Bank of India whose branch is present itself on the campus. You just need a bonafide certificate from the DSW dept., along with you personal documents for availing bank loans. I know students who have opted for loans and it is not a difficult thing here.
