SIT campus is spread over 50 acres and the whole area is landscaped and is lush green. Tumkur enjoys the same salubrious climate as that of Bangalore.
At the time of inception, the institute was offering only 3 branches namely Civil, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering with a total annual intake of 120.
The institute is now offering 12 UG programmes with a total annual intake of 930 and 16 PG Programmes with a total annual intake of 432.
16 departments of the institute are recognised as research centres by Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, where students can register for Ph.D programme and M.Sc. by Research. 152 research scholars are pursuing their Ph.D degree in our research centres and so far 31 research scholars have obtained Ph.D degree from our research centres.
All the departments in the institute have well equipped laboratories. The institute has over 2200 computers and are located in 29 Computer Centres which are all networked with fibre optic backbone. Round the clock internet facility is provided to all the Computer Laboratories, Faculty Chambers, Hostels, Class Rooms, through 100 Mbps leased line.
The total number of students in the campus is over 5000 and more than 50% of the students stay in seven of our hostels.
The institute has 330 well qualified and experienced faculty members out of which 90 are Ph.D holders and others Masters Degree holders. 70 more faculty members are pursuing their Ph.D programme in IISc, IITs and other reputed universities.

The institute is a beneficiary of the World Bank assisted Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme Phase-I and Phase-II.
SIT has the distinction of being one among the four self financing institutions across the country selected by MHRD, Govt. of India for establishment of Centre of Excellence in Applied Research and Nano Technology under the Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme (TEQIP) with a grant of Rs. 5 crores.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : •For the eligibility of our course we should complete puc or diploma and have to write KCET for puc and Dcet for diploma and management seat also there •For me 800 cutoffs was there (DCET)

Entrance Exams & Admissions : * The eligiblity criteria are as student should complete +2 with moderate percentage, and get average rank in KCET or COMEDK, or if u perform poorly in either of the above exams, u have to go under donation quota. I had taken KCET and anything above 10K rank in KCET will fetch the admission .

Entrance Exams & Admissions : A student has to write KCET entrance exam to get the admission. One also has to secure his/her rank below 5,000 ranks to get enrolled.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : Admission is according to COMEDK UGET and KCET Exam. Also, management quota is an option.
