Established in 1970, Rajarshi Shahu Mahavidyalaya (Autonomous), Latur, the higher educational institute of Shiv Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha, has created a name of its own. The college aims at providing quality education to the underprivileged students of the region. The college started functioning in the year 1970, it had only 51 students enrolled for undergraduate program of Commerce and Arts. In 1971, the college introduced UG Science, later the college was affiliated to Marathwada University, Aurangabad. In 1978, a history was created as three out of three University merits in UG Commerce were from our institute which brought name, fame, and recognition to the institute. After some experiments with the education and merit system, the college came up with the “Shahu Pattern of Education”.Later this pattern came to be popularly known as Latur Pattern of education.

Every year 500 to 600 students from this college seek admission to medical colleges in India because of the Latur pattern introduced and exposed to the students. In the academic year 2018-19, 26 students got AIR rank in AIIMS, 32 students got AIR rank in JEE Advanced Examination and 532 students got more than 500 marks in NEET Examination. This is the institute where maximum numbers of students go to medical and engineering colleges in India. RAJARSHI SHAHU MAHAVIDYALAYA became the first college to represent the college autonomy in the Marathwada region in 2013.

The property has been registered in the name of “Shiv Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha, Latur". The college is well equipped with over 59 classrooms and close to 49 laboratories. Administrative Block, Library, Hostel and Sports Complex, Seminar hall, Library, and Auditorium. The college library is spread over in an area of 13,335 sqft. The whole campus is equipped with high-speed internet access and is under 24*7 CCTV surveillance. The college provides hostel facilities for the candidates as well. The campus is equipped with a lift on every floor for easy navigation across the campus. For an adequate supply of purified water, they have water coolers across the campus. The campus is equipped with a multi-functionality gym.
