Set in Ahmedabad, Nirma University is considered a good institute in the state, with the most qualities a private university is expected to have. It is popular for its well-maintained infrastructure with several developments according to the changing times. 

The university is exceptionally particular about the students' attendance with other rules that resonate with the school-like atmosphere. It is considered the best Engineering college in Gujarat, making it academically profound. Hence, students who have scored high ranks in competitive exams tend to join the university.

Although organic students' insights reveal that the university is infamous for its inefficiency in terms of faculty and horrible management, students are provided with different opportunities to enhance their theoretical and practical knowledge in their chosen fields.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctorate-level courses in multiple disciplines besides Engineering programs. Even though the university lacks efficient faculties, it is said to cultivate smart, hardworking young minds recruited by several big companies because of the brand name.

The university offers numerous courses in different disciplines under its various wings. The programs at the university are available at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels, with all the required facilities that enhance their education.

The university has enduring Engineering programs, which makes it the best in the state. It offers Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), Master of Technology (M.Tech), and Executive Diploma programs under its School of Engineering and Technology. Students have the different areas of specialization to choose from to pursue their education in Engineering and Technology. Besides the traditional courses, the university also has integrated programs combining B.Tech programs with Management and Science courses.

The speciality of the university in the field of Management is that it offers an integrated program combining the undergraduate and postgraduate Business Administration programs. Apart from that, the university also has integrated B.Tech and MBA programs.

The university also provides research facilities and collaborations to encourage students to pursue doctoral studies in different fields. The university collaborates with multiple companies to assist its research students with innovative projects and real-world experiences.

Academics at Nirma University

Only a handful of faculty members are erudite and experienced in their field, while most need more experience in teaching. However, all the professors are highly qualified, with a minimum of a master's degree, and have good connections with important people in the field, which helps them stay updated with the latest developments. Different departments like Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Management are said to have amazing teachers ready to help their students.

Per various reviews on online search portals, due to the strict environment at the campus, the students are said to be constantly pestered with warnings related to attendance and submissions. Over the years, the quality of professors for each department has improved, which has benefited the students. Yet, the good professors are forced to do clerical work, leaving no time to engage with the students.

Amazing University Infrastructure

An important factor that makes the university stand out is its amazing infrastructure. Spread over 115 acres of area, the university campus is filled with greenery and has all kinds of facilities students require during their period here, such as free Wi-Fi connection and medical facilities that provide a wholesome experience in the university. A few noteworthy facilities and amenities at Nirma University are described below.

The university has well-equipped amphitheatre classrooms with audio-visual systems and multimedia projectors to encourage an interactive learning environment. These classrooms can accommodate many students, but the infrastructure is in such a way that everybody has a direct view of the professor and the projector.

Each department block has a library of resources related to the particular fields. The libraries are interconnected digitally with shared sources of information. The libraries are well-furnished, with reading rooms provided for reading and studying. Students can access electronic resources around the clock, which can be used by logging in to the official library portal. 

The university has state-of-the-art laboratories with computer labs updated with the latest software and internet connectivity through high-speed internet. In most cases, students are not expected to do the practical work. Rather, they have to observe the working of respective experiments.

The lab staff have had a bad reputation in the past, said to have been incorporated with the students in terms of providing them with instruments and devices outside practical class hours.

Although the university has been inactive in sports, the campus consists of facilities to practice indoor and outdoor sports activities. The university does not have particular sports teams but modern facilities for all sorts of outdoor activities. 

Accommodation Facilities

Students in the past have complained on various QnA online portals about the university not having hostel facilities for B.Tech students. University hostels are available for both girls and boys at the postgraduate level. However, numerous paying guest rooms are available around the college premises, with rents starting from INR 10,000. 

The university campus has three hostel buildings with a total capacity to accommodate 800 students. The rooms are well-furnished, and amenities like a dining area, multipurpose hall and other centres are available in the hostels.

Dining Areas

The university has a central canteen that serves a variety of good quality food and has impressive service. Additionally, two other food courts provide different food and beverages. Canteens are shared by two or more departments, which helps students interact with the other department pupils. The overall hygiene in the canteen and food courts are well-maintained by the staff. The hostels also have separate messes with dining areas that serve timely and decent food.

Low Course Expenses

The tuition fees for the programs offered by the university are reasonably lower than the others in the same sector. The course fees for different programs offered by the university range from INR 7,60,000 for B.Tech programs, to INR 14,12,000 for B.Des programs. For master's programs, the average fees is between INR 4,50,000 and INR 5,09,200. 

Campus Life at Nirma University

The university campus has several events, always with various activities encouraging its students to pursue their hobbies and talents and enhance their overall personalities. It has a Students’ Activities Committee, including students and teachers. This committee is responsible for conducting extra-curricular activities and social, cultural and sports events every year. The committee occasionally organizes adventurous activities, like trekking and desert camps.

The department-wise associations conduct seminars and workshops that help students understand certain concepts better. The university also holds frequent industry visits throughout the year, which allows students to gain practical knowledge.

Another significant factor is the Robot Lab, which encourages interested students to practice their robotics skills. The associated professors encourage students to participate in competitions such as Robocon, where they can showcase their innovations. Students have won several competitions in the past as well.

The university is located in the city so students can access several places and areas around the city. The transportation hubs are close to the university as well.

Attendance Policy

The university has a strict attendance policy where students require a minimum of 85% attendance to appear for the annual exams. In case of low attendance, students have to appear for mid-semester exams and submit additional assignments. Students are detained in the subject if the attendance percentage is lower than 60%.

Due to the above mentioned rigid attendance criteria, students are restricted from participating in co-curricular activities. In the past, students were said to have attended classes when sick because of the fear of getting detained.

Dress Code

The university does not have a specific dress code. However, the Engineering students are expected to wear formal clothes on Mondays. Students are expected to wear decent and ethical clothes. The girls and boys are not allowed to wear clothes that expose their knees, like shorts/capris. Apart from that, students are accustomed to wearing casual clothes.

Diversity in Campus

The campus needs more diversity in some Engineering departments, as the boys-to-girls ratio is disproportionate. Students are mainly from the home state, which also results in a less diverse culture.

Placement Prospects

The university is well-known for its placements. Almost all graduates get offers from reputed companies, especially those with backgrounds in Computer Science & Engineering, Information Technology and Electronics & Communications Engineering. Several companies are said only to hire students who have completed their education at Nirma University.

The university has an active Placement Cell involves training and supporting students to perform well in the interviews. It also encourages students to intern during breaks to build an impressive portfolio.

In the past academic year, the toppers from different Engineering departments have been placed in good companies with handsome salary packages. The average salary pack is INR 7.42 LPA, with the highest being INR 50 LPA. Around 3 students were offered INR 50 LPA, 2 with INR 30 LPA, and 7 with 20 LPA. Apart from these, 139 students got offers above INR 10 LPA and 760 students up to INR 10 LPA.
