“Students must be highly competitive at IMT Ghaziabad to cope with the increasing intakes, which benefits them in the long run in the corporate world. This is not the best B-school in the country, but it's somewhere up there.”

With over 40 years of legacy behind, IMT Ghaziabad is regarded as one of the top private universities in the field of Marketing. The university has cultivated several qualified professionals who have acquired high positions in reputed companies. The admission is done based on the CAT scores of students. Only those who obtain the minimum cut-off marks in the exam are allotted seats. Hence, the student crowd is well-educated and mostly with a background in technology. The university was ranked in the top 10 universities of the country for Marketing, but the ranking has been dropped ever since.

The institute campus is breathtaking, filled with students brimming with hopes and dreams of pursuing a successful career. Due to the high intake of students, the competition during placement drives is high. Students with marks even more than 90 are left till the last rounds of the selection process as others score almost cent percent in the exams.

Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, conducts several events and fests throughout the year, which makes the campus active always. Thus, the common saying, ‘the sun never sets in IMT.’

Exceptional Postgraduate Courses

The institute mainly focuses on providing higher education in the field of Management. The courses available at IMT-G are at the Postgraduate Diploma level with different specializations. The two main specializations available apart from the regular diploma program are Marketing and Financial Management.

Apart from three traditional PGDM courses, the institute recently introduced new specializations, which are the Dual Country Program (DCP), Banking & Financial Services (BFS) and Business Management - Accelerated Program (PGDM EXP).

PGDM Dual Country Program (DCP) is a one-of-a-kind course where the students have the opportunity to pursue their program in two countries, India and UAE. The first year of the course will be in India, at the Ghaziabad campus, and the next year will be at the Dubai campus. This course is helpful to those who intend to be familiar with the dual-country management requirements and fit into an international-level business environment.

PGDM Business Management is a full-time program with a duration of 18 months. This program is mainly for experienced executives with a rigorous and demanding curriculum to facilitate them with updated knowledge to increase their chances of getting better jobs in the field.

Besides the postgraduate diploma programs, the institute also offers a full-time doctoral program for students, academics, and executives to build their knowledge in the field of Management. The Fellowship Program in Management at IMT-G is a full-time, 4 to 5-year program that has a curriculum based on contemporary events. It is a residential program that offers the fellows a stipend of up to INR 60,000 per month. The institute prepares the students for research, consulting, and teaching jobs in Management.

Top Tier Faculty & Pedagogy

One of the best features of the institute, according to the students, is the faculty. The institute has top-notch faculty members who are highly educated and experienced in the field of Marketing and Management. The proportional student-to-faculty ratio provides a space for all students to have personal interaction with their professors and seek assistance from them if required. However, due to the high number of students, they must take the initiative to ask for clarification and help from the professors. Some of the senior faculty members are regarded as the best in the country as well.

Apart from the full-time teachers, the institute also invites prominent figures in the field to conduct guest lectures, which helps the students to understand concepts on a deeper level. Industry experts and professors from other reputed B-schools are frequently invited to conduct workshops as well.

As for the curriculum, the syllabus is constantly updated to include the latest topics to enhance the career prospects of the students. The institute ensures that students have equal theoretical and practical knowledge in the field, as it is very important for having a successful career.

Stunning Infrastructure

The institute is built on 14 acres of land with adequate amenities and facilities, which has an integrated Wi-Fi network connection available throughout the campus. It has several classrooms with different seating capacities. The infrastructure also includes residential facilities for students from out of the city.

The academic block on the campus has 15 smart classrooms, well equipped with audio-visual technology to enable an interactive learning experience. The classrooms have varying capacities to accommodate the different strengths of students. Along with that, the academic building consists of the several other facilities, which consist of guest houses for MDRC students, conference rooms, and other facilities, including additional office spaces for discussions.

The institute has state-of-the-art IT labs with high-speed internet connectivity and air conditioning for research and practical purposes. IMT has integrated with reputed IT companies, such as CISCO, Microsoft, SAS, and SAP, to incorporate international-level facilities for its students. The important labs included in the institute infrastructure are Finance lab, Real-Time Contextual Laboratory (RTCML), Media & Entertainment Lab (MEL), and Smart Analytic Decisions Lab.

Housing Facilities

Students are provided with newly built hostel facilities, which can accommodate up to 500 students. The hostel blocks include an air-cooled dining hall, where timely meals are served. The institute has separate housing facilities for boys and girls, with several amenities, such as seminar halls, libraries, indoor and outdoor sports facilities, and a medical room.

The students are served vegetarian and non-vegetarian food, as per preference, in a well-maintained, hygienic dining area. The hostel premises are safe and secure with round the clock security.

Sports Centres

The campus includes separate areas for indoor and outdoor sporting activities. The students can access the well-set gymnasium to stay healthy and fit during stressful academic periods. The indoor site includes space for games like Table Tennis, Carroms, and Chess. At the same time, the outdoor facilities include areas for playing Cricket, Basketball, Badminton, Volleyball and Football.

Engaging Campus Life

Along with the academic events, the institute conducts several technical, sports, and cultural events for the students to pursue their interests and showcase their talents. With the computer labs and library open 24/7, students have a self-sustained ecosystem to study. The campus is filled with greenery and has a beautiful landscape, which helps students to have a serene academic life.

As the competition level is high due to the number of students with high grades, the time is limited for them to indulge themselves in extracurricular activities. However, the institute ensures that the students have a complete college experience without leaving out any other activities. There are no such strict rules and regulations that might hugely interfere with the daily lives of the students.

Initiatives by Students

In order to encourage students to have a real-world experience during their studying period, the institute has supported their students to conduct several inter-college Management events, such as follows.

• Tatva: Conducted to appreciate budding Managers based on their work during the Summer Internship program.
• Chakravyuh: Inter-college sports event with other B-school students in the country.
• Passion: Cultural event, with Management games, contests, debates, and other cultural programs.
• Wizebyte: Tech event to introduce students to the new technologies used in the business world.
• Conquest: HR students are offered opportunities to work on short-term projects, concluded with a symposium.

 Student Committees

There are multiple student-led committees for various activities included on the campus. These committees include the following:

Dress Code

There is no specific uniform for the students at the institute. However, they must wear business casuals, with full-sleeve upper garments, for regular classes. They must be in formal attire for presentations.

Diversity in Campus

The institute has a diverse campus with students from all over the country. In terms of educational background, most students are from Engineering courses, and around 40% of the students have prior work experience. All gender students are present on the campus, from different socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, which enhances the peer learning experience of the students. However, the number of students increases every year, making the campus very crowded. Male to female ratio is not proportionate, as around 81% of students are male, and only 19% constitute female students.

Competitive Placement Drives

Although prestigious companies actively recruit students from the institute, the chances of good students with comparatively lower marks getting good jobs are narrow. Due to the high number of students, the placement process is solely based on merit. 

As per the online students' insights, in the past year, students have had complaints about the placement committee regarding their unwanted rudeness to the students. They decide who should go for what interview. Hence, if the students do not respect them, they choose to do whatever they please, which can ruin the future of these students.

According to the past years’ placement reports, the average CTC offered by the companies was up to INR 18 LPA, with the median at INR 17 LPA. However, there has been no placement auditing, which results in a lack of clarity in the data.

Overall Impression of IMT G

In conclusion, the Institute of Management Technology, Ghaziabad, is a good option for students who were unable to obtain admission into the reputed B-Schools of the country. Even though the institute has an amazing infrastructure and brilliant faculty, the increasing strengths of students have added to the depletion of quality. This has caused the ranking of the institute to fall as well. However, if a student is ready to put their heart and soul into studying well and bagging a high–paying job, the institute is right for them.
