Gujarat Forensic Sciences University is the first university of the worlds of its kind. It is the only university of the world offering courses solely in the fields of allied sciences and forensic sciences. The university was founded through the Gujarat Legislative Act of 2008. It started its operation from July 2009. GFSU is accreditated by NAAC with an A grade. It is recognised by UGC. The university operates in association with the Directorate of Forensic Science [DFS].

The University functions through four different institutes. All the institutes offer different specializations and courses under various fields. The GFSU Admission is offered only for postgraduate and doctoral courses. The university sports ultra modern infrastructure with all the modern and up to date facilities available for the students. The university has MOUs with over 20 nationally and internationally acclaimed institutes.

The University has research centres in Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, and Gurgaon. The Centre of Excellence of Humanitarian Forensics is one of its kind of institute in the world. The centre is dedicated to providing help to the people struck with mass disasters. The university also has an anti-ragging policy.
