LIBRARY

The Deccan College of Engineering and Technology library is spread over an area 766 sq mtr of built-up area and seating capacity of 200 students. The DCET library has 8834 titles and 40911 volumes, and subscribing 96 National and 39 International journals and online e-journals subscription of Wiley Blackwell (Civil, Mechanical, electrical, electronic and Computer science Engineering) and J-gage (Engineering and Technology).

ADVANCED LEARNING CENTER

Advanced Learning Resource Center (ALRC) was established to provide an opportunity to students and staff of the college to conduct seminars, arrange expert lectures and enhance their knowledge by going through video graphed expert lectures from eminent professors of IIT's on various topics of Engineering.

ENGLISH LEARNING CENTER

The English Language is a window to the world. The significant role of its spoken, written usage at formal and instructional level in any academic and professional front is acknowledged across the world. A comprehensive knowledge of the language has become an object of importance in today's professional scenario and career oriented way of education.

A range of language functions of particular relevance to Engineering and Technology is exemplified in the English Language Lab. This new approach is task based and skill-oriented. All the four skills involved in learning a language namely reading, listening, speaking and writing are developed through various tasks. By working through the activities, they try to prove their effectiveness in using English as the means for development and empowerment in their chosen profession.


ENGLISH LANGUAGE LAB ACTIVITIES

  • Phonetic script is taught from the basic vowels and consonants.
  • Pronunciation of vowels and consonants is taught through various software packages.
  • British English Accent : Cassettes of British Pronunciation are provided for listening and understanding.
  • Script of American phoneme is also given.
  • Student's own recording along with the listening session is advised.
  • Cassettes of conversation by Native speakers are provided.
  • Students are made to record their own conversation's on the pattern of the native speakers.
  • Lingua phone is also provided for this purpose.
  • Students are advised to watch English news, BBC, CNN and other English programs.
  • Classical English Movies like 'My Fair lady' 'Benhur' 'Gone with the Wind' etc. are shown in the lab.
  • Students are divided into groups of four or eight for Group Discussion on Current Topics and Role play on various satiations.
  • Finally they are trained to take the dais for public speaking with special emphasis on pronunciation, presentation, facility of expression, style, body language and above all self confidence.

Teacher's Training Program

Teachers from all faculties of the college are encouraged to take the training session for improving their training session for improving their communication skills. A special training program is designed for this purpose spanning over a flexible time frame of four weeks.

COMPUTING LAB

The computer center was started in 1991. The college has a Computer Center that is one of the best in twin cities. The center has fully air-conditioned floor area of 6000sq.ft. and most modern hardware and software facilities. It consists of latest computer machines and IBM servers, arranged in four laboratories. The Laboratories are arranged so that one can work on SCO Open Server 6, Windows 7, Novel Netware, Red Hat Linux, RTOS. Other software facilities include Language Compilers for C, C++, Java, Fortran, COBOL and Pascal Packages such as Oracle 10 G, Developer 2000, Microsoft Visual Studio pro-2008, MS Office 2007, VC++ 5.0 and so on.

Hardware items such as HP Laser Jet Printer, Inkjet Colour Printer, Dot Matrix Printers, Scanners, CD Writer, Pen Plotter & Digitizer are available. Stabilized Power Supply ensures reliable operations on the systems, along with 10 KVA UPS, LCD Projector.

CAD/CAM CENTER

Deccan College of Engineering and Technology is having a well equipped CAD/CAM center with 30 CORE-I3 computer systems, Main Server with LAN access to all computers and peripherals.

The Computer Aided Manufacturing section is having CNC LATHE with eight tool index able turret and CNC MILL with six automatic tool changer with necessary software to simulate and control the operations of CNC machines.

The facilities at CAD/CAM are extensively utilized by students of Mechanical and Production Engineering for their computer graphics lab and CAD/CAM lab. The Teaching and Non-Teaching staff members are also exposed to the facilities at the centre to upgrade their skills in CAD/CAM areas.
