The Utkal University founded on 27.11.1943 is the mother University of Odisha. Pandit Nilakantha Dash, Maharaja Krushna Chandra Gajapati and Pandit Godavarish Mishra, amongst other doyens of modern Orissa, played a leading role in the establishment of the University. On 27th of Nov 1943, the Utkal University started functioning at Ravenshaw College ( now University), Cuttack. Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India, laid down the foundation of the present 400 acre sprawling campus on 1st January 1958. The University thereafter was singularly honoured when a great educationist Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the second President of India inaugurated the present campus at Vani Vihar on 2nd January 1963. It was originally an affiliating and examining body only.

A number of Post-Graduate Departments and other centers were established in the University Campus. There are more than three hundred general affiliated colleges under the University. The University has 15Autonomous Colleges under its jurisdiction. It has 27constituent Post-Graduate Departments, 2 Constituent Law Colleges, a Directorate of Distance & Continuing Education and a number of centers like Population Studies, School of Women's Studies, Ambedkar Study and Social Exclusion and Inclusive Policy Study , an Academic Staff College, a Pre-School and a High School etc. The University offers a number of Self Financing Courses.Utkal University is recognized by the UGC. It is a member of the Indian Association of Universities and Commonwealth Association of Universities. Utkal University has been accredited by NAAC with A+ Grade in December 2017 for a period of five years.

Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education offers two types of undergraduate courses B.com(Hons) and B.A (Hons). .B.A (Hons) has further specializations. The course and specializations are as follows.

Admission to the proposed course requires minimum marks in 10+2 or equivalent. Admission to various UG courses requires minimum marks in the qualifying examination. Details regarding admission criteria, eligibility, admission fee, etc, are as follows.

B.A (Hons) B.Com (Hons)	Higher Secondary / +2 / Senior Secondary or any other equivalent examination passed from any Board / Council established by the Govt. of India or any State Govt. or any other equivalent examination recognized by Central Board of Secondary Education / Council of Higher Secondary / Dept. of Industry or any other Dept. of Govt. of Odisha or Utkal University. Those joining B.Sc. Programme must have passed the above examination under the faculty of Science / Technology / Engineering / Pharmacy etc. There shall be no such restriction for joining B.A/ B.Com stream.

Directorate of Distance and Continuing Education college provides a one year full time Regular Mode PG Diploma in Banking & Insurance Management course. A Bachelor Degree holder in any discipline or equivalent can opt. For the course.

MA in English	Any graduate with English as a subject from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University is eligible to take admission.
MA in Odia	Any graduate (with Odia as subject at least +2 level) from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University under 10+2+3 is eligible to take admission.
MA in Public Administration	Any graduate from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University is eligible to take admission.
MA in Sociology	Any graduate from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University is eligible to take admission.
Master of Social Work	Any graduate from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University under 10+2+3 is eligible to take admission.
MA in Education	Any graduate from Utkal University or Any other University with Education as a subject (Hons /Pass / Elective) at graduation level. Those with B.Ed / D.Ed/ Any other recognized teacher’s training program under Government/ Board/University are also eligible. Those who are in teaching profession with at least 5 years experience may be granted waiver at the discretion of DDCE.
MA in Hindi	Any graduate with Hindi as a subject from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University or any graduate with kobida/ratna/shastri is eligible to take admission.
MA in Political Science	Any graduate from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University is eligible to take admission.
MA in Sanskrit	Any graduate with Sanskrit as a subject from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University under 10+2+3 is eligible to take admission. Answers are to be written in Devanagari script.
MA in History	Any graduate from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University is eligible to take admission.
Master of Commerce	B.Com, BBA from Utkal University or any other University recognized by Utkal University, Chartered Accountants, Company Secretaries and Cost Accountants are also eligible for admission.
IMBA & BBA	+2 or equivalent
MBA	Bachelor Degree holder in any discipline or equivalent

Course(Regural)	Eligibility Criteria
MCA	A. Any Graduate Degree under 10+2+3 pattern recognized by the Utkal University with pass in Mathematics or Statistics as a subject at least in +2 or Senior Secondary Level are eligible for 3 year course .
M.Sc. Computer Science & Application	Those with B. SC Computer Science shall be admitted to M. SC COMPUTER SCIENCE
M.Sc. IT	Those with B. SC ITM shall be admitted to M. SC ITM
M.Sc. ITM	Those with B. SC IT shall be admitted to M. SC IT

Q: What is the Online Admission Procedure?

A: Online Admission process for general and sfs courses are as follows: The applicant needs to register him/her self through a linkavailable in the DDCE website. After New Registration you will get an auto generated Email, where your form no ismentioned. Loigin with Form No & DOB , read the instruction carefully. Fill up all details of the form. Upload your Passport Size Photograph. Upload all required documents. Once the certificates are uploaded and Final Submit, an applicant cannot edit the Onlineform/ Course/ Photograph/ Signature etc. After successful submission of the ApplicationForm and documents submitted by the applicant, the entire online document verificationprocess will start by DDCE, which will take 48 working hours. Once the form is accepted, your payment bank challan will be generated. Take aPrint out of the Bank Challan. The challan is student specific, in which the name of the candidate, form no. and theamount for the purpose of deposits are specific. DDCE will verify the payment process. Once the payment is received by DDCE, the eIdentity Card, e-Prospectus and e-receipt will be uploaded in the student portal.
