Ranked among the top 100 universities in the country by several national and international educational organizations, Chaudhary Charan Singh University is a public university located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, that generally offers satisfactory results on the academic front. However, students have had multiple issues with the university in the past years regarding its administrative incapabilities, corruption and active involvement in student politics.

Spread across a vast area, CCS University is the best institution in Meerut that offers numerous courses in different fields. As for academics, the university has highly qualified faculty members who provide quality education to the students. Yet, the student leaders make it difficult for the other students to focus on their studies, especially during the student body election time. 

The university has also received backlash from society due to its corrupted administrative members who have allegedly sold fake degrees and mark sheets with the university name. Such cases have created a bad reputation for the university, even after the good academics and educational facilities it provides.

Diverse Array of Programs

CCS Univesity offers a wide range of programs at the undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels across various disciplines. Since its inception in 1965, the university has expanded its range of fields over the years to include the newly updated curriculums and to keep up with the present education scenario. Admission to courses in different disciplines is based on the marks obtained by the students in the qualifying exams and entrance exams.

The courses famous for the quality of curriculum and education that are mostly recommended by past years’ students and educational experts include the following.

Besides the courses mentioned above, the university is known for its research programs and multiple research centers. A significant factor affecting the students’ academics is the strict attendance policy, common to all the programs. Students must have a minimum attendance of 75% to appear for the end-semester exams.

Economical Education

A primary reason for the students to prefer to pursue their education at the university is its affordable fee structure. The average annual fees for popular undergraduate courses, such as B.Tech, BBA, B.Sc, BA and B.Com, range from INR 10,000 to INR 1,00,000, based on the courses and the specialization chosen by the students. In any case, the university's course fees are lower than those for private universities.

The university also offers scholarships and other financial aid options to its students based on merit, financial need and other factors. This enables students from all backgrounds to access good education without worrying about the cost of tuition.

Professors of a Relatively High Standard

The university has managed to maintain a reputation for having strong faculty, who are generally appreciated for their knowledge, expertise and passion for teaching. The professors are accessible and willing to assist students to successfully complete their courses. The teachers are well-versed in their subject areas and have immense experience in teaching. They explain complex concepts clearly in a way all students with different capacities can understand.

The professors are known to be genuine and dedicated to teaching. They are enthusiastic about their fields, which makes them more enjoyable for the students. They are accessible, supportive of the students, and willing to go the extra mile to help the struggling students. They provide an atmosphere where the students can nurture their academic and personal goals.

Although most students have had positive experiences with the university faculty members, a few teachers have been challenging. Some students have mentioned that professors only take classes for namesake, leaving students in a tricky situation where they are forced to learn complex topics. 

Such professors are also not always available and do not respond to emails or queries raised by the students. The students have raised concerns about their lack of interaction with the professors outside of class.

Large Yet Improvable Infrastructure

The university has a modern and well-equipped campus that spans over 222 acres of land and various facilities to support its teaching, learning and research programs. Although the university infrastructure has all the necessary facilities required for a complete learning experience, the management has failed the students regarding general cleanliness and maintenance of the facilities.

The academic infrastructure of the university includes numerous classrooms equipped with modern teaching aids, such as projectors and whiteboards. The university has well-equipped laboratories for different disciplines, modern facilities, and technology to ensure students have updated knowledge and practical learning experiences.

The university has a central library and several departmental libraries with a vast collection of books, journals and resources. It also has multiple computer labs with access to high-speed internet and different software programs. However, the students face difficulty accessing these facilities during the peak hours due to the crowdedness. Therefore, the university is expected to expand its seating capacity to accommodate more students.

The university has a good sports complex with facilities for various sports, including cricket, football and basketball. It also has a well-equipped gymnasium for students to maintain a healthy lifestyle along with their education. 

In terms of research facilities, the university has several research centres and institutes on campus dedicated to different fields. There are laboratories available for Engineering and Science programs with advanced research equipment.

The canteen at the university is generally good, with different food options at affordable prices, served hygienically. It is clean and well-maintained. A few things require improvement, such as increasing the seating, which is less during the peak hours. Also, the food quality is said to be inconsistent. 

Overall, the students are provided with a good infrastructure. However, limited access to facilities, maintenance issues, crowdedness during peak times and lack of recreational and study spaces are some areas that require improvement.

Affordable Housing Facilities

The university provides housing options through hostel facilities, which are affordable, clean and secure. The hostel fees are very reasonable for all students, especially compared to the other universities in the area. The rooms and common areas are cleaned regularly and well-maintained. The hostel is close to the university campus, making it easy for the students to reach their classes on time.

The security of the students is assured by the 24-hour security guards and CCTV cameras placed in and around the compound. The hostel wardens and staff are helpful to students with any problems they have. 

Nevertheless, students have reported some hostel maintenance issues, such as leaky faucets and broken furniture. The lack of amenities, such as laundry facilities and common rooms, has also been a concern. The hostels can be crowded, which makes it difficult for the students to have personal space to study or sleep.

Timely meals are served in the common, clean dining areas through hygienic mess facilities. However, the food quality is not always the best, which can be bland and repetitive.  

The hostel fees at the university vary depending on the room type and occupancy. For single rooms, the annual fee comes up to INR 13,200. The fees per person for double and triple rooms are INR 10,000 and INR 8,000, respectively. In addition to the hostel fees, students must pay a refundable deposit of INR 2,000 at the time of Admission.

Active Campus Life

The university offers a vibrant, engaging campus environment with several academic and extracurricular activities. Students can be part of various clubs and organizations based on their interests. Multiple cultural and sports events are conducted annually, allowing students to express and showcase their talents. 

There are multiple clubs at the university catering to various interests, including drama, music, arts, debate, photography, and social services. These clubs and organizations help students develop their skills, pursue their hobbies and connect with like-minded peers. They also get exposure to different cultures and perspectives through various cultural and academic events organized on campus, including tech fests, seminars and guest lectures. 

Students have access to good quality sports facilities, which are well-maintained and easily accessible at all times. Students are encouraged to participate in multiple sports competitions and tournaments between disciplines and universities. 

Though there are multiple options for the students to engage with, the lack of diversity in some clubs and organizations and limited funding hinder campus enjoyment. 

Diversity on Campus

The university campus is diverse, with students from all over India and different backgrounds. It is committed to diversity and inclusion and strives to create an environment where all students feel welcome and supported. In past years’ students have mentioned that they appreciate the diversity at the university, where they meet students from different backgrounds. The multicultural events conducted on campus provide them a great learning experience. 

Dress Code

Even though the university does not have a specific uniform or dress code policy, its students are expected to dress respectfully and professionally by avoiding clothing that is too revealing or casual. Students are refrained from wearing shorts, crop tops, low-cut tops, sweatpants, and other clothing items that do not abide by the rules and regulations at the university.

Varying Placement Opportunities

The placements offered to the students at the university vary based on the courses and disciplines. According to the previous years’ placement rates, around 78% of students have obtained jobs through the drives held on campus. The top companies participating in the placement drives offer jobs for Software Engineering, Data Science, Finance and Business Analytics posts. While several students have obtained positions through placements on campus, many students had to find jobs independently.

Based on the previous year’s placement records, the highest salary package offered was INR 15 LPA, and the average salary package was INR 4.5 LPA. The university has an active placement cell that invites top companies for the drives conducted. However, there is room for improvement in this aspect.

Overall Impression of CCS University

Like all institutions, CCS University also has its positives and negatives. Several students have enjoyed their campus life and gained multiple opportunities through the university. At the same time, numerous students have faced difficulties from faculty members, lack of facilities and other factors. Student politics and corrupted administrative officers aside, the university provides ample opportunities for students for their overall academics and personal development.

Overall, the university is a good option for those students who are focused on their studies and aim to achieve their goals regardless of external factors. However, they are advised to do thorough research by contacting the past and present students of the university to get a clear picture of the academic and placement scenario for the courses of their choice.
