About Bishop Abraham Memorial College, [BAM] Pathanamthitta
Bishop Abraham Memorial College started its dedicated service to the cause of higher education on 28th June 1965 with 13 teaching & 7 non teaching staff and 371 students. It is owned by the Bishop Abraham Memorial Trust Association registered under the Travancore-Cochin Literary, Scientific and Charitable Societies Act (Act XII of 1955 as S No. 3 of 1965).
B.A.M college is named after Bishop Abraham Mar Thoma Metropolitan, that saintly soul who dedicated his life for the spread of the values of the Kingdom of God. For him life was to wear out than to rust out. The institution upholds these ideals and conveys the student community that devotion to truth and disciplined behaviour are the prime requirements for the successful life.
Far from the maddening crowd of towns and cities, still unpolluted with the infiltration of the vile and vicious influences, the B. A. M. College is perched upon a lovely hill.In the near distance twists and flows river Manimala, a silver stream in an abundant sea of undulating green. The peaceful and rural atmosphere has been a stage setter for the unique formation that B.A.M. stands for. We have been insisting on the integral development of the person through education. While giving a free rein of thought, we make the students understand eternal truths which are far beyond the flights and falls of intellect.
During the years of service, we have been trying to open up new vistas of knowledge. In our efforts of empowering the rural youth through education, we celebrated our silver jubilee in 1990. In the valedictory, the then Speaker of the Lok Sabha, Sri. Shivaraj Patil was the chief guest. At present, we offer four Postgraduate courses (two self financing) and eight Undergraduate courses (one self financing).
We are happy to put on record the recognition of our National Service Scheme unit as the Second Best in the Mahatma Gandhi University (during 2003-04 and 2004-05). It indicates the priority we have been giving for the programmes to nourish social commitment among the students through various movements and organizations. The college chapel stands out to diffuse a spiritual orientation in the campus, typical of our land.
Vision And Mission
The college aims to impart integral education of the highest standard, sound learning, build up character and instill highest moral and spiritual values, uphold social justice and to share with others the fullness of life which God offers in and through Jesus Christ. Through various curricular and extra- curricular programmes, we propose to empower the rural youth, make them value-based, self confident and employable. The exposures and various formative programmes help the students to take up responsibilities in the society. We facilitate sincere and tradional student- teacher relationship to make each student to feel that the college is an extension of home.
Those who enter the institution could grow in wisdom and virtue and could say to others. “ you shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free”. We diffuse spiritual thoughts that enable them to understand each one’s life in the light of the Supreme Reality. We aim to build up sound inter - personal relationship and cater to the three dimensional growth of personality - physical, mental and spiritual.
