The full form of OET is the Occupational English Test. This test is conducted by CBLA or Cambridge Boxhill Language Assessment Unit Trust to check the proficiency level of healthcare professionals in the English language. The exam is held fourteen times in a year.
OET: An Overview
OET stands for Occupational English Test. This test is specially conducted for the healthcare providers to test their reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in English. The aim of OET is to test the ability of the candidates to deliver healthcare services within an English-speaking environment.
The OET is conducted for a total of 12 healthcare professionals. They are: Nursing, Dentistry, Medicine, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Pharmacy, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Radiography, Podiatry, Veterinary Science and Speech Pathology.
The OET test consist of the following subtests:
Listening: This subtest consists of three subparts. The first part is Part A which consists of Consultation Extracts. The second part is Part B which is Workplace Extracts. The third part or Part C is Presentation Extracts.
Reading: This subtest is a test on reading skills consisting of three parts - Part A, Part B, and Part C, testing different aspects of reading quality of the candidates.
Writing: This subtest checks the writing skills of the candidate.
Speaking: This subtest checks the speaking skills through profession related role-playing tests given to the candidates.
