The NEET PG score is valid only for one year. This means if you take admission in a particular academic session for MD (Doctor of Medicine)/ MS (Master of Surgery) and PG Diploma courses, you cannot carry forward that admission to the next year. You’ll have to appear for the NEET PG exam again if you want to apply in the next session.
It is also important to note that previously, different states used to conduct their entrance exams for PG medical courses. But now, after NEET PG became a statutory exam, no state can opt out of it.
So, NEET PG has become the common entrance exam for almost all PG medical admissions in India, including state-run medical colleges.
Some important exceptions and details where NEET PG scores are still required are added below for your understanding:
- For All India 50% quota seats in MD/MS/PG Diploma courses — this applies to all states except Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Telangana.
- For State quota seats in MD/MS/PG Diploma courses — this includes all States and Union Territories, including Andhra Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Telangana.
- For admissions to Private Medical Colleges, Institutions, and Deemed Universities across India.
- For Armed Forces Medical Services Institutions offering MD/MS/PG Diploma courses.
- For DNB Broad Specialty courses (starting from the January 2017 admission session onwards).
