Shivam Shekhar's Review on Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology

Currently, I am doing an internship as a Campus Ambassador for Money Wizards. Mostly IT sector companies make recruitment from the campus. Companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys are among those where maximum students get placed. Average Salary is 6-7 lakhs P.A. and Highest package is 32 lacs P.A. A total of 74% got placed in this Academic Year. There is a quite strong Alumni network with connections in Deloitte, TCS and Schnieder Electricals.

There are a total of 8 boys hostel in campus and 3 girls hostel. Hostel rent varies with the features provided in rooms, starting from 26000 to 50000 per semester. Hostel rooms quality increases with price. Food provided in mess is not up to the mark and many complaints are filed daily regarding the quality of food served. Mess fee amounts to 16500 per semester. Classrooms are built to an average extent. Labs are equipped well. The Nava Nalanda Central Library is quite fascinating. Dining halls are spacious and well built. Wi-Fi connectivity is good but the fact that we have to connect to it via a Network Agent is not good as it keeps on disconnecting on a regular basis and has many restrictions.

For a student to be eligible for a full 4-year BTech course at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, they must be under 23 years of age and should have passed 10+2 Secondary Education from a recognized School with a minimum of 60% score in Science+Maths. In order to take admission, a student has to manually apply through the college's web portal by filling an application form. JEE Mains is the entrance exam whose score is considered for admission to the college. Thus a student must satisfy all the criteria for giving JEE Mains, as specified by the JEE Apex Board. The cutoffs keep varying year by year. This year for getting admission in BTech course, in the branch of Computer Science was 150 for outside Punjab students whereas it is 93 for Punjab Quota students. Similarly, for ECE branch it was 103 for Outside Punjab students and 78 for Punjab students.

The class timings are quite exhausting as classes generally run from 8 AM to 5 PM. Each course is comprised of Assignments, Projects having equal weight. Quality as well as Method of Teaching is average and needs quite an improvement. The amount of money to be spent for BTech course is way too much in return of the quality of academics and exposure provided to students.

The course fee per year amounts to INR 4 Lacs P.A. Forgetting scholarship a student must be having a JEE Mains rank under 50000 combined with a 10+2 board % of 90+ Generally, 50-60 students get a scholarship in this college. Yes, loans are quite relevant for studying in this college. Almost all bank, like ICICI, SBI, etc. provide easy student loans for this purpose

A number of student societies operate in the college with main being Fateh, IETE, Microsoft Student Chapter, etc. The main fest called Saturnalia is organized in November, along with a number of technical and cultural fests organized throughout the year. Life in college is quite happening on weekdays, but on weekends it becomes boring and dull as most of the Punjab resident students flock off to their home. This obstructs many events that are planned for weekends due to a shortage of audience.
