Academics and Faculty

5

  • Class begins at 8'O clock (depends) and ends by 5'O clock.
  • The 1st year subjects will be common for all the branch people. The second and third-year schedule will be little hectic. In the final year ,you will be pretty much free. Mostly busy with placements and the major project.
  • There will be 2 tests, 1 mid-semester and 1 end semester exam. Assignments depend on the professor. 75% attendance is mandatory.
  • Faculty members will be very friendly and ready to help at any point of time. They are the best proof anyone can get. They use advanced methods of teaching.
  • Not only academics, you can get help from your faculty about your personal problems also. Highly qualified teachers.
  • I joined here in 2013, enrolled as a student  in B.Tech (Electronics and Communication engineering ). The college organizes orientation program on the very first day  to know more about the college even department also organizes  Orientation program to give an insight into what you will be doing in college for the rest of your four years.
  • Here, I got to meet 800 talented students from all over the country. I am A specially abled student coming from a local college with poor communication skills (English), it haunted me and I was just discouraged seeing others from top class educational institutes. But then once the college and classes started I just felt I could not have got anything better in my life.
  • The world outside NITK is very different than inside the world. I used to get teasing from most of my classmates for my disability and people used to treat me as an alien in my old school where I studied till 12th. But here in NITK, everyone is soo supportive, everyone talks to each other very nicely. They never make people feel inferior to others. The environment here is awesome.

Fees and Scholarships

3.5

  • The course fee for our batch at NIT, Surathkal goes up to around 47k per annum.
  • And the hostel fees is 38k per annum.
  • For SC and ST students the course fee is only 8K and hostel fee is the same for everyone.
  • From 2016 batch, there is a fees hike, which almost makes with a doubles the previous one.
  • SC/ST students get 50K per annum from college, free laptop and reimbursement of books fees.
  • If a stipend is not provided during internship by the company, the college reimburses 10k for Indian internship and 1 lakh for an internship done abroad.

Academics & Faculty : Daily routine changes day to day and depends on what course you're enrolled in. I had a quite easy going timetable in first year but 2nd year is a bit hectic. There were no projects in first year but you can take them on your own. Method and quality of teaching is good but it also varies from professor to professor. Overall experience is good.
