Placements and Internships

3

  • The college does not provide you with any internships. It only guides you on which company would be good for which subject. It also refers some students to companies if they have good contact with the company.
  • I did an internship in Tata Steel. The recruiters that come for placements are mainly IT companies who hire computer students. Other than that some companies also come with sales jobs for campusing.
  • The number of students getting placed are not fixed and can neither be estimated because many students do not sit for placements and go ahead to do their masters.
  • The average salary the companies give is around  INR 3,20,000 PA. Highest salary given is for the sales jobs which are INR 6,00,000 per annum.
  • St. Joseph's has got a strong alumni network and this network is used very well for placements and other purposes.
  • Two famous alumni are Mr. Rahul Dravid and Dr. Devi Shetty.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

  • There are two hostels(only for boys). One is inside the campus and the other is 6kms away in Ejipura. The hostel is quite cheap and costs INR 21,000 per year excluding food. Mess charges vary from time to time and the menu provided. The infrastructure of the hostel is good and enough to let the students keep healthy and concentrate on studies. PGs outside are a bit expensive as Shanthinagar is a relatively expensive place. They cost around INR 7000-10000 depending upon the fact that whether the room is 2 sharing, 3 sharing or 4 sharing. The college has two canteens. One in the Postgraduate block and the other in the Under Graduate block. Both the canteens provide quality and healthy food at decent rates. Veg meals cost Rs.50 and Non-veg meals Cost INR 70. There is a variety of food items available. The college is provided with a library which has quality books one could think of on any topic.
  • The classrooms are spacious and have projectors for use whenever needed. Labs are there for any combination that needs a lab and these labs are provided with all the necessary types of equipment. The Wi-Fi in the college is available for use in the office area but is a problem to access for the students and thus the college needs to do better on this part.

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • St. Joseph's College has eligibility criteria of minimum 60% marks (all subjects) in 12th board examinations.
  • If the course for which you have applied for has seats left, they call you for a personal interview to the college itself. After you clear the interview, you get admission.
  • There are no entrance examinations that are to be answered to get admission in St. Joseph's.
  • Mostly, the cut off is 60% in 12th board exams, but it may vary from year to year.

Academics and Faculty

4

  • For art students, the classes are generally from 9am to 1pm on weekdays and 9am-12pm on Saturdays. For science students, the timing is 9am-4pm on weekdays and 9am-1pm on Saturdays. Lunch break is from 1pm-2pm.
  • The college has highly qualified and hard working teachers who work very hard to impart useful knowledge to the students. Weekly assignments are also given to the students. The teachers not only use blackboards, but also projectors which help in showing various presentations and videos in class to provide better understandings to students.
  • The college is centrally located in Bangalore and has a very healthy environment for learning and all-round development of the student.

Fees and Scholarships

4.5

  • The course fee of St. Joseph's is quite less and very affordable. For my course, it was INR 31,000 in the 1st year, 25,000 in the 2nd year and 29,000 in the 3rd year. For B.A. courses the fees are as low as INR 13000 per year. Because of the low fees, students rarely need to take a loan. Even if they need a loan, the loans are available at any bank you go because of the college reputation and low-cost fee structure.
  • The college does not provide any scholarships.

Clubs and Associations

4

  • All the departments of the college have a fest of their own. The college also has 31 clubs and associations which include NCC. The college has a huge talent in sports and cultural and has a team for almost every sport and cultural activities. There are also inter-class cultural and sports competitions which bring forward the talent in the college. There are also some national level festivals that the college conducts every year. Thus, overall life in St. Joseph's is really a good experience. Students are exposed to a lot of opportunities and their talent is brought out very well by the college.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : St.Joseph's College does not take any written entrances for the bachelor's degree. One needs to have at least 60% marks in his/her 12th board exams. Then based on the course you have applied for and the number of seats available for that course, they call you for an interview to the college. If you clear that interview, you get admission.
