Placements and Internships

  • Till 2012 admissions, all the students scoring a CGPA more than 6.5 would be absorbed in ISRO.
  • From 2013 batch onwards, the CGPA cutoff has been raised to 7.5 and the ISRO absorption is not guaranteed and is done based on the vacancies notified by ISRO centres.
  • Most of the students secure internships and jobs on their own till now in IIST. 

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

  • There are about 14 hostels (3 girls and 11 boys) with each hostel having a capacity of 100 students twin sharing.
  • Since the college is relatively newly established (2007), the hostel infrastructure is superior to other colleges.
  • The hostel stay and food are free for all the students regardless of their academic standing which decides the scholarship.
  • There are two messes which cater to pan India community serving hygienic food.
  • Classrooms are well built, spacious, air conditioned with all the basic amenities (projector screen, multiple boards).
  • The college is fully connected with WiFi and unlimited downlink for the students.
  • Library contains all the necessary books and journal facilities with the option of making use of ISRO libraries as well at IIST.  

Entrance Exams and Admissions

  • Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology provides an environment which is conducive to a research enterprise.
  • Advanced facilities like Cryogenic lab, Advanced Propulsion and Laser Diagnostic lab, Nanotechnology lab are centres where cutting-edge research takes place.
  • The researches are advanced by collaborative efforts between student, faculty and Scientists and Engineers community from Liquid Propulsions Systems Center LPSC and Vikram Sarabhai Space Center VSSC, ISRO.
  • Successful students-led projects like VYOM - Sounding rocket and IIST Nano-satellite are a testament to the claim. IIST offers B.Tech. program in Aerospace Engineering, Avionics and Physical Sciences. 
  • The eligibility criteria are to clear JEE MAIN which is used to prepare merit list for those who apply for IIST at its website.
  • JEE Advanced is used as minimum eligibility criteria.
  • An all India rank below 5000 can help you secure branch of your choice. 

Academics and Faculty

  • Most of the semesters are hectic with 6 courses and 2 labs on an average.
  • Assignments, tutorials and internal tests are regular to keep students busy throughout.
  • The quality and method of teaching are on par with other tip national institutions with most of the faculties holding doctorates from foreign universities/IITs/IISc.
  • The college scores a good in overall academic prowess and research projects. 

Fees and Scholarships

  • Students securing more than CGPA 7.5 are awarded full scholarship which includes tuition and boarding at IIST.
  • Students securing less than CGPA 7.5 are needed to pay tuition fees which amount to about Rs. 48,000 per semester.

Clubs and Associations

  • There are few active student societies and clubs in the college mainly the astronomy club, quiz club and the movie club.
  • Rest all are transient in nature.
  • Konchords is the informal cultural night held every semester which is mainly a dance, singing, standup night. 
  • Dhanak is the main annual cultural festival on campus held on a large scale attracting students from all of South India with diverse competitions and attractive prizes.
  • Conscientia is the annual technical fest  of the IIST college.
