Placements and Internships
- I interned in Haldor Topsoe, NCR. IT is a technology license. Learned the designing of Heat exchangers, pumps, columns here.
- Many core companies along with some consultancy and IT companies visit the campus every year.
- Average package is around 5-5.25 lakh. And percentage placement is around 70-80 percent. I am listing below some of the regular recruiters: UOP Honeywell, Technip, Bechtel, Simon India, ZS Associates, Exl services, Reliance India Limited, Reliance Petrochemicals, Jubilant Life Sciences, SRF limited, Chambal Fertilizers, Hmel, Trident, Saint-Gobain, Sun pharma,Vedanta Resources,Infosys. These are major companies only. Also, the PSUs are recruiting through Gate now so they no longer visit the college campus.
- Alumni network is very strong.
College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities
- Hostels again have nominal rent. Hostel fee is Rs. 475 per month. For
- For food there are two mess and one canteen.
- You have to pay according to the diet you eat. Diet is also subsidized.So on an average the expenses of food are around Rs.3000 per month. Food is of good quality. 24 hour free wifi facility is available in all the hostels and also in the college.
- Currently nearly 90 percent of the students in the need of the hostel get the hostel easily. More hostels are coming up.
Entrance Exams and Admissions
- To get admission into SSBUICET , Chandigarh you need to score good in the entrance examination AIEEE Exam currently known as JEE MAINS.
- When I joined in 2012 the last rank was 22000 For general category. Also No state quota is there. Currently you can get admission up to AIR 50000.
Academics and Faculty
- Class Timings are from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M. The best part is that Dr. S.S.Bhatnagar University institute of chemical engineering & technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh( SSBUICET) started in 1958.
- So we have got many experienced teachers. The quality of teaching has been seen throughout. So the lecturers of core subjects of chemical engineering are very informative and interesting here.
- What is lacking here is the support staff for non-core subjects which are equally important. The faculty for teaching non-core subjects is not at all good. That is an area of improvement for sure. But overall great college for learning chemical engineering.
Fees and Scholarships
- The best part of the college SSBUICET is that the course fees of the Chemical Engineering program are just Rs. 15000 per year.
- That means the whole chemical engineering degree can be completed in just Rs. 60000.
- So if you compare it with other engineering colleges, for that matter even govt. Engineering colleges you will realize it is among the lowest.
- Still there are scholarships available for EWS,SC,ST. On an average, I think 5-15 students from one class get the scholarship.
Clubs and Associations
- As the college is in the Chandigarh and in the Panjab University campus so there are ample opportunities available for the students. Enactus student chapter of Chandigarh is there in the college itself , every year our college bags top 3 position in the national Enactus competition.
- Apart from this many student societies, social , cultural clubs are there like Rotaract, Make a difference,etc. So all in all life in the university campus is the best. You have the best library here, lush green campus. Apart from that college is in Chandigarh so you can enjoy a lot here. Along with that the best coaching centers for CAT, IAS are present in Chandigarh.

Entrance Exams & Admissions : You need to have at least 60% in PCM in order to be eligible for applying to this course at Dr. SS Bhatnagar Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology. You have to give JEE MAIN exam and the selection would be done on the basis of JEE MAIN rank. The cutoff is generally 53-55k.
