Placements and Internships

2.5

  • In my opinion, internships and placements is one of the drawbacks of this college.
  • College does not give prominence to summer internships. I remember only some of us were able to pursue internships. When it comes to placements.
  • I think the college needs to buck up and strive to get good companies for placements which cater to all streams of engineering in UMIT - electronics, computer science, and IT.
  • Unless you are in the top 20% in your college or can boast of extra ordinary skillset, the college will not guarantee you with 100% placement. This is a harsh reality that not all students get placed at the end of graduation, especially students from electronics domain.
  • You can refer the UMT's official website to know which companies visit the campus.

College Infrastructure and Hostel Facilities

4

  • UMIT and its campus is awesome - that is one of the best places to be in Mumbai! Set admist posh locality of Juhu, the campus is really huge and includes other colleges (Pharmacy, polytechnic, fashion designing, law, management, etc.) as well.
  • The campus also includes an auditorium (although in dilapidated state), lush green garden, basketball court, and a huge football ground.
  • It also includes spacious canteen and yummy food available at reasonable prices.
  • SNDT library is very huge and it can easily counted as one of the best libraries in Mumbai!

Academics and Faculty

3

  • Usha Mittal Institute of Technology (UMIT) is an autonomous institute and falls under the jurisdiction of SNDT University. UMIT is located in the posh area of Juhu in Mumbai which is a definite add-on.
  • Lectures are scheduled well in advance and the college gives lot of prominence to attendance as some marks are reserved for attendance. One needs atleast 75% attendance in every subject. The quality of teaching in UMIT is average and there is not much of assignment work load and students must be ready for self-study.

Clubs and Associations

4.5

  • UMIT encourages practical learning thorugh its different societies and chambers - ACM, CSI, IEEE, E-Cell, etc.
  • These societies/committees hold seminars, workshops, technical events, festivals, industrial visits, etc. thorughout the year which not only help unleash our creative side but also help us to hone our skills.

Academics & Faculty : Teachers at UMIT are good, more or less. If you attend the lectures regularly then there is no need of extra coaching. Many of them are PhD, others are pursuing it. They have thorough knowledge about their subjects. While most of them are friendly and helpful, for some ‘handle them with care’ approach is important.
