About SSC Stenographer Exam
A stenographer is a person who transcribes spoken words by typing them into a shorthand typewriter, called the stenotype machine. A stenographer works in a courtroom, or during any legal proceedings, or at a corporate place. Speedy and accurate typing skills are prerequisites for a stenographer.
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts SSC Stenographer Exam every year to recruit Stenographers under Grade C (Group B Non-Gazetted) and Grade D (Group C) for the various Ministries, and Organisations under the Government of India.

Nationality
An aspiring candidate must be either:
- A Citizen of India
- A Citizen of Bhutan
- A Subject of Nepal
- A Tibetan Refugee, who came to India on or before January 1, 1962, with the intention of permanent settlement
- An Indian-origin person who had migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Vietnam, or the East African Countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania (formerly Tanganyika and Zanzibar), Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, and Ethiopia, intending to settle permanently in India.
The candidates belonging to the categories of 2, 3, 4, and 5 must be able to produce a certificate of eligibility issued by the Government of India, to be able to seek employment in SSC Stenographer posts under Grade C & D.
Educational Qualification
The candidates aspiring to seek employment in the post of SSC Stenographer under both Grade C & Grade D, are required to have a passed Class XII, or any other equivalent examination from a recognized Board or University.

SSC Stenographer Grade ‘C’ & ‘D’ 2023 application process will start soon. Candidates will be given two chances to modify and correct their applications before resubmitting them. For making corrections and resubmitting modified/corrected applications for the first time, the Commission imposes uniform correction fees of INR 200.

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) will release the status of SSC Stenographer 2023 application form. Candidates can check their application status by entering their registration number and date of birth. Only candidates whose applications have been accepted for the recruitment exam will be issued an SSC Stenographer, Admit Card.

- Candidates are required to carry a photo ID proof, like the Aadhaar Card, Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, or a Voter’s ID Card along with SSC Stenographer 2023 Admit Card.
- Electronic gadgets like mobile phones, calculators, pagers, etc. are not allowed inside the examination hall.
- Candidates are advised to reach the exam centre at least one hour before the time of the exam mentioned on the Admit Card, to complete the verification process in time.

Candidates will be given one dictation for 10 minutes in either English or Hindi (as specified in the online Application Form) at a speed of 100 words per minute (wpm) for Stenographer Grade C and 80 wpm for Stenographer Grade D in the Skill Test. Marking Scheme for CBT
The general marking scheme for the online Computer-based Test is as follows: Each correct answer will fetch 1 mark. Each incorrect answer will result in the deduction of 0.25 marks. Total marks obtained by a candidate are calculated after deducting the penalty for wrong answers from the total number of correct answers.

Stage II: Skill Test
The next stage of SSC Stenographer 2023 Exam Grade C & D is the Skill Test, conducted to assess the typing skills of the candidates. Only those candidates who have passed the first stage, i.e. the CBT round, and have been shortlisted, will be able to appear for the Skill Test.
The candidates will be asked to transcribe or type a dictation of 10 minutes in English or Hindi, at a minimum speed of 100 words per minute (w.p.m.) for the post of Stenographer under Grade C, and at 80 w.p.m. for the post under Grade D. SSC Stenographer 2023 Scores
SSC Stenographer 2023 scores of both qualified and non-qualified candidates are released a few days after the declaration of result. Candidates can access their scorecard by logging with user ID and password. The scorecard can be downloaded within the time frame fixed by the examination authority. The scorecard will display the section-wise and total scores obtained by the candidates.
Calculation of Scores
The scores for SSC Stenographer 2023 are calculated as follows.
- For the correct answer, candidates are awarded one mark.
- There is negative marking for wrong answers, 0.25 marks will be deducted for incorrect answers.

Mode of Selection
Based on the marks of the computer-based test, candidates will be selected category-wise to appear in the Skill Test. The skill test is mandatory and qualifying in nature.
Candidates who qualify the skill test are considered for final selection based on their merit in the computer-based exam. Final selection and allocation of ministries/departments will be made based on their performance in the computer-based exam and preferences of posts/departments given at the time of document verification.
The final allotment is done based on merit-cum-preferences.
Tie-Breaker
In the case where more than one candidate secures the equal aggregate marks in the computer-based exam, the tie will be resolved by applying the following methods:
- Marks in Part 1 (i.e. General Intelligence & Reasoning)
- Marks in Part 2 (i.e. General Awareness)
- Date of birth, older candidates will be placed higher.
- Alphabetical order in which names of the candidates appear.

Computer Based Test (CBT)
The first stage of SSC Stenographer 2023 exam Grade C & D is a computer-based test (CBT) conducted in the online mode. All the candidates who have successfully registered themselves through SSC Stenographer registration process will be able to appear for this online exam.
Skill Test
The next stage of SSC Stenographer 2023 Exam Grade C & D is the Skill Test, conducted to assess the typing skills of the candidates. Only those candidates who have passed the first stage, i.e. the CBT round, and have been shortlisted, will be able to appear for the Skill Test.

What is the qualification for the SSC Stenographer 2023 Skill Test?
Only those candidates who have passed the first stage of the SSC Stenographer 2023 exam, i.e. the CBT round, and have been shortlisted, will be able to appear for the Skill Test.
