Indian Air Force (IAF) recruits Commissioned Officers in Flying, Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branches through Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT).

AFCAT 2021 Recruitment

Here is the selection process of AFCAT:

  • Selection Process: Candidates applied for AFCAT will have to go through the selection procedure as follows:
    • For Ground Duty (Technical) Branch: Candidates will be called for Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) and Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT). The AFCAT will be of two hours' duration and will contain multiple-choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness, and military aptitude. Selected candidates will have to undergo further testing of two stages.
      • Stage-I: comprises Intelligence Test along with other tests, document check.
      • Stage-II: comprises a Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview.
    • For Flying Branch: Candidates have to go through Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). Duration is 2 hours and will contain multiple-choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness, and military aptitude. Intelligence Test, Psychological test along with other tests, document check, Group Tests interview & CPSS (Computerised Pilot Selection System) and or PABT would be administered to eligible candidates.
    • For Ground Duty (Non-Technical) Branch: Candidates have to go through Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT). The AFCAT will be of two hours' duration and will contain multiple-choice questions on verbal ability, numerical ability, reasoning, general awareness, and military aptitude. Intelligence Test, Psychological test along with other tests, document check, Group Tests, interview.

Types of commission under AFCAT 2021 Recruitment

The different commissions belonging to the AFCAT, under which the candidates will be recruited, are PC and SSC Commissions for men and women. The details for both the commissions are elaborated and given below for the reference of the candidates.

PC:

This commission is available for male candidates only, and those who are joining the commission should continue to serve until the age of superannuation. The superannuation age of the candidates depends on their ranks and branch.

SSC:

  • The Flying Branch of the SSC Officers will have a service engagement period of 14 years from commissioning. This period is not extendable.
  • The Technical and Non technical branches of the Ground Duty SSC Officers should serve 10 years in the commission. Based on the availability of the vacancies, suitability, candidates' willingness and other factors, the service tenure will be extended to another 4 years.
  • The candidates will be considered for the Grant of Permanent Commission during the last year of their tenure, based on the availability of vacancies, suitability, candidates' willingness, etc.

AFCAT 2021 Salary Structure:

  • Pay Band in AFCAT is different for all the Branch. Here we will provide the separate breakup of Salary Branch wise.
  • Flying officer:
    • A Flying Officer will be entitled to pay in Pay Band (15,600–39,100) per month along with Grade Pay, Military Service Pay. Dearness Allowances, Kit Maintenance & Transport Allowance.
    • In addition, other allowances are applicable based on nature of duty/ place of posting and would include Flying, Technical, Field Area, Special Compensatory (Hill area), Special Forces, Siachin, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Area, and Remote Locality.
    • Flying Branch salary–INR 85,372
    • Ground Duty (Tech) Branch Salary–INR 74,872
    • Ground Duty (Non-tech) Branch Salary–INR 71,872

  • On successful completion of training, the candidate will get Gross Monthly Salary as follows:
  • In-Ground Duty Non-Technical, Total 4 duties will be there. They are Administration, Logistics, Accounts and Education Duty.
  • Allowances in IAF: Candidate will be entitled to below allowances in AFCAT along with Grade Pay.
    • Military Service Pay
    • Dearness Allowances (DA)
    • Kit Maintenance
    • Transport Allowance (TA)
    • Other allowances based on nature of duty/ place of posting and would include Flying, Technical, Field Area, Special Compensatory (Hill area), Special Forces, Siachin, Island Special Duty, Test Pilot & Flight Test Engineer, Area, and Remote Locality.
    • The pay and allowances are subject to the enhancement based on the implementation of VII CPC (7th pay Commission implementation)
  • AFCAT Benefits and addition to the Pay & Allowances, officers are entitled to various benefits as follows,
    • Furnished accommodation
    • Comprehensive medical cover for self and dependents
    • Supply of entitled rations
    • Canteen
    • Officers’ mess facilities and many more
    • LTC and leave (60 days annual and 20 days casual) subject to service exigency.
  • Insurance:
    • Candidates will get insurance coverage after successful training or at the time of commission. 75 Lakh Insurance Cover (on contribution) is applicable to serving officers. Additional cover of 10 Lakh (on contribution) is applicable to Flying Branch Officers.
