Telangana University was established in 2006 by the State Government through Act Number 28. The University was founded with the objective of making higher education accessible to Telangana's educationally backward Nizamabad District. In the first cycle evaluation carried out in December 2015, Telangana University won the prestigious NAAC 'B' grade with a strong score of 2.61. On 21, 22, and 23 December 2015, the 8-member NAAC team visited the University and awarded a "B" grade. Initially, with six classes, the University was launched and opened in the PG building of the Govt. Giriraj College, Dubba District, Nizamabad City.
The university has conducted an evaluation for UG, PG and PG Diploma courses for the year 2021.
