Reservation

Reservations are of two types when it comes to reserved policies under the TNAU, namely category wise reservations and special reservations. A single separate ranking list is presented for the category wise reservations candidates, based on this ranking list students are offered seats to the desired college. Another single separate ranking list is presented for special reservations and their counseling is done separately. Let's take a deeper insight into these reservation types.

Category wise Reservations- According to the Tamilnadu Ordinance no. 4 published in the year 2007 under the Tamil Nadu Gazette provides reservation based on the annual permitted strength in each department for admission to the respective institute. For the Backward Class Muslims, the reserved seats shall be three and a half percent within the thirty percent reservation for Backward Class. Considering the Government ordinance no. 50, Adi Dravidar and tribal welfare published in the year 2009, 16% seats shall be offered to the Arunthathiyars within the seats reserved for SC. The following table provides a detailed reservation policy followed by the college under the TNAU admission rules as per the orders of the Government of Tamilnadu.

Category Percentage of Reservation for Specified Category
Open / General competitors 31%
Backward Class (BC) including all subcategories. 30%
Most Backward Class & Denotified Communities 20% *
Scheduled Caste (SC) including SCA 18%
Scheduled Tribes (ST) 01%

(*) including transgender / Eunuch ( Thiru Nagai / Aravani) in the Most Backward Class. As mentioned in the table above these reservation percentages are applicable only for the 50% seats taken by the TNAU for admission via counseling. I.e. only 30seats out of 120seats will get the category-wise reservation opportunity. If the seat under any of these reservations is found vacant then the seat is filled by inter-se transfer of seats allotted to eligible candidates and native to Tamilnadu only.

Special Reservations- Under this type of reservation, there are 4 categories of candidates who are eligible for such reservations. These four special reservation categories are mutually exclusive for the candidate and such candidates can opt for only one reservation category. Meaning a person opting for counseling through special reservation cannot opt for category wise reservations or opt for more than one special reservation category. Campus transfers for special reservation students are not permitted under any circumstances.

These four Special reserved categories are Differently abled, Dependent children of Ex-Servicemen, Freedom Fighter descendants, and Eminent Sports Person. A total of 35% of seats are reserved under special reservations and the remaining seats are reserved for ICAR and NRI seats. There will be separate counseling held for these special reservation students offline, and students must provide relevant documents to satisfy the claim over seats under these reservation categories. Failing to provide necessary documents under these categories the admission of the candidate will take under inter-se reservation and the candidate must pay the requisite fee based on the reservation policy of inter-se admission. If these seats are found vacant, the seats are allotted via inter-se admission, under ranking basis.

Selection Criteria

Candidates are Selected through Online Counseling. Online counseling will be held for Category wise candidates and Special reservation Candidates separately. Rankings based counseling and seat allocation to college are carried out.
