Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Villupuram was established on 17th October 1984 as an autonomous institution. The college was established under self-financing schemes. The name MEPCO stands to the Metal Powder Company, Thirumangalam and Schlenk is the German collaborator of the company.

MEPCO was affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai and now it is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai from 2001. The college has secured the Accreditation under the Tier-I category and has received ISO 9001:2008 certificate from M/s. DNV, Netherlands.
