“Even with its grand infrastructure, Manav Rachna University cannot hide its failure as a university. Its poor quality of education, lack of dedicated faculties, and expensive course fees have left the students bewildered and disappointed.”

Behind the facade of an opulent infrastructure, Manav Rachna University (MRU) presents a grim reality. With its vast marketing that conveys the message of a bright future at the college, students have rushed to get admitted there. Sadly, only after a few days do they realise the shocking reality. By then, there is no point in return, and they have to unwillingly spend their academic life.

Of the many complaints and concerns the students have raised on various online forums, few are a constant. To start with, the management seems to be only focussed on money. This means after they have received the students' fees, they do not bother to address any of the student's issues. The faculties at the college are not concerned about the job and students either. Similar is the situation for many facilities, such as laboratories, classrooms, etc.

Despite such poor conditions of the college, the administration charges high fees for each course. Many past and present students have even warned any students willing to be admitted to Manav Rachna University. Such are the experiences of the students.

Below Average Academics 

It comes as no surprise that the management who are mostly inclined towards the monetary benefits and not for the students, there is only little focus on the academics. There is no new or innovative approach to the course curriculum. Although Manav Rachana University (MRU) is a NAAC Accredited university, no care has still been taken to review the course structure and implement newer topics. As a result, once the students graduate, there is a knowledge gap between theoretical and practical learning.

Since there is a fault in academics, exams are made relatively easy so that most students can pass the exams. This also ensures that there is not much hue and cry about the same. The private university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, research, and certificate courses. These are offered in various fields like technology, design, law, science, etc. 

While talking about the practical or laboratory sessions, the students have expressed their disappointment on various online platforms. As per them, the practical classes are conducted for the namesake. No proper lessons are imparted to the students, nor are teachers bothered to help the students. In such conditions, students are not industry-ready.

Exorbitant Fees 

It is clear that studying at Manav Rachna University (MRU) is tricky. Despite unyielding results in any aspect of the student's life, the management still churns out enormous course fees from the students. Not only this, in every step or process, students are charged the processing fees, etc. which becomes a painful affair. 

The course fee for B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering is INR 2,44,000 annually, and the total course duration is 4 years. The course fees for B.Sc (Hons.) Microbiology is INR 1,39,000 per annum. Similarly, the course fee for B.Tech in Biotechnology is INR 1,79,500 annually. It is important to note that apart from the course fees, students must also pay for their accommodation and other expenses. In all, it becomes quite a significant amount to pay for such below-average academics.

For students coming from an economically compromised background, it becomes nearly impossible to afford such high fees. The university extends negligible help in terms of scholarships as well. 

Undedicated Faculty

It is a serious problem for Manav Rachna University (MRU) when it comes to its faculty members. Students have often complained about the professors' lack of ethics and teaching dedication. Not only are they bothered about the students and classes, but the faculties can be seen engaging in gossip with their fellow colleagues. So much so that many of them have earned a name for themselves for doing so. 

It is unclear to what extent the faculty members' qualifications, expertise or experience are. None of them are warm in their approach, nor are they helpful in helping the students with their doubts. There have also been reports where students have raised their voices for poorly checking the exam answer sheets. It is grossly unfair to such a condition in any educational institution. Teaching is a serious profession on which the future of thousands of students depends. Because, the current picture of MRU presents a dark reality of the student's future. 

Opulent but Ill Maintained Infrastructure 

From the outside, Manav Rachna University presents a stately picture of its grand infrastructure. However, as the days pass, the failing infrastructure slowly unveils itself. Several facilities have been installed. But either they are not updated with time or are falling apart. For example, there are several computer labs present inside the campus. However, among them, only one functions correctly and is installed with the required software.

The classrooms, for most parts, are built well. They have the needed facilities, like smart classes, etc., for an interactive learning session. However, classrooms for one particular block or building are in poor condition. The library, though, is in good condition. It stocks numerous books, journals, periodicals, newspapers, and many more. It is remotely accessible as well.

As mentioned above, even though each department has a lab facility, it is not maintained properly. Either there is less equipment as compared to the number of students, or they are outdated.

Apart from this, there is a functioning IT infrastructure. In addition, there is a medical facility for students and staff. Transportation is also available to the central city. There are many food outlets or cafeterias present on campus. They offer various foods. It also serves as a hanging out place for students. In all the grim picture of the infrastructure, one good aspect can be seen in the security system.

Manav Rachna University (MRU) has a robust security system. This ensures 24x7 security surveillance, thereby making it a safe and secure environment. The campus has a few sports facilities like cricket, volleyball, gymnastics, etc., which are enjoyed thoroughly by the students.

Expensive Student Accommodations

Hostels are available for both boys and girls. The rooms are adequately furnished with beds, study tables, wardrobes, and other necessities. The rooms have air-conditioning facilities as well. The rooms come in various types, such as twin sharing, triple sharing, studio apartment style, premium hostel, etc. The fees also vary accordingly. There is a sound security system in the hostel premises.

The food services at the hostel are very bad. The quality and hygiene are not checked regularly. The hostel charges range from INR 1,31,100 to INR 1,89,300. Such fees are not affordable to many students. Although, there are many affordable paying guest options available outside the university.

Poor Placement Record

It is not entirely the student's fault they cannot secure a job in the Manav Rachna University's campus placements. Since there is no proper training and a lack of academics, many students are bound to fail to secure good placements. Although quite a few companies visit the campus, they only tend to hire from specific departments. Not all departments see the recruitment process. T

he students have expressed on online platforms that, many a time, they are forced to sit for off-campus placements by making their own arrangements. Among the successful ones getting placed, the highest CTC bagged was INR 54 LPA. 

Average Campus Life

Manav Rachna University (MRU) is not big on campus life. There are few cultural and sports events that are organised, and students participate in it. Since the campus is located a bit far away from the city, it is surrounded by lush greenery. However, there are not many places outside the campus where students can hang around. However, because of the presence of various food joints inside the campus, students mostly prefer to hang out there. Students can keep themselves entertained by participating in various sports-related activities. 

Dress Code and Rules

There are no strict rules or regulations. Neither is there any dress code or uniform. Even though students have a 75% attendance criteria, failing to secure it does not invite disciplinary actions. Students are mostly let go after a warning. 

Diversity Among Students

The college is located in Faridabad. Students mostly from the northern part of the country tend to take admission at Manav Rachna University. Hence, only a small percentage of cultural diversity can be seen. However, there is a good balance between male and female students, as per the students’ claims.

Because of the expensive course fees and the availability of scholarships, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds cannot be admitted. Hence, this also reduced the diversity quotient.

Is Manav Rachna University (MRU) Worth it?

Past and present students of Manav Rachna University have suggested opting for other good colleges instead of MRU if possible. The university has performed poorly in its core aspects, such as education, faculties, infrastructure, course fees, etc. Seeing all of these, it is highly suggested that students consult the present students and do thorough research before being admitted to Manav Rachna University. If they can find other universities, they should give that priority.
