Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, Bhopal is named after Makhanlal Chaturvedi, a famous Freedom Fighter, Poet, and Journalist. The University was inaugurated by Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma, the then Vice President of India, on 16th January 1991. MCNUJ is approved by University Grants Commission. It is a member of the Association of Indian Universities and the Association of Commonwealth Universities.

The university provides quality education in the field of Science, Commerce, and Technology. Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism, Bhopal admission is offered at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate level. This is India's first University which offers education in the field of journalism and mass communication. The university also has an anti-ragging committee.

Here are a few key highlights of the University:

MCNUJ offers scholarships to the students on the basis of merit obtained in the entrance exam. They also provide financial assistance to economically weaker students on the basis of their previous educational achievement and academic performance. Moreover, there is a provision made for relaxation in tuition fees for blood relations.

In order to encourage the students to display their natural talent, the university organizes the cultural event named "Pratibha" for students year after year. The Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism offers only full-time programs and does not offer any distance or correspondence education. Selection is done on the basis of the national level entrance examination.

Department of Electronic Media:

The department of electronic media came into existence in the year 1998. This department has an intention to provide exhaustive Knowledge of electronic media in teaching and training undergraduate, postgraduate as well as research doctoral candidates that supports a wide range of career ambitions. 

Department of Computer Science and Applications:

The department of computer science and applications was founded in 1993. MCNUJ department of computer science and applications has a qualified group of faculty members. Department aims to develop professionals in the principal field of computer science and applications. The computer science and applications department conduct the workshop for the students just to keep in touch with trending technology.

Department of Journalism:

The department of journalism was established in the year 1991. This department came into existence for the developing media professionals in mainstream and center areas of journalism. Makhanlal Univesity department of journalism is committed to providing excellence in teaching and training students as well as research scholars in the area of journalism.

Department of Management:

This department came into existence in 2010. MCNUJ department of management promised to provide an excellent education to the student. This department has the main objective of enabling students with managerial qualities concerning the media industry. The management department also has a pool of knowledge of teaching staff.

Department of Mass Communication:

In the year 2001, the department of mass communication came into existence. This department prides itself as a leader in media education producing media scholars, researchers, and professionals with competencies, foresight, dynamism, and value-laden personalities. The department has a well-trained teaching staff.

Department of New Media Technology:

The department of new media technology was founded in 2011. This department comes into existence as a part of media, studies of facilitating and help and promote converging technologies in the media and communication sector. The department also undertakes interdisciplinary training programs in the latest areas and trends of new media. 

Department of Advertising and Public Relations:

The Department of Advertising and Public Relations offers specialized, effective courses and value-based, industry-oriented education and internships. It also conducts regular workshops and seminars and training programs not only for students but also for industry professionals. In 1991 the department of advertising and public relations came into existence.

Department of Communication Research:

The Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism department of communication research aims to provide the best curriculum to the students and train the student through practical and theoretical knowledge. MCNUJ Facilities:

This library has an OPAC facility.  MCNUJ library also has around 35,000 books on a broad range of subjects from media and communication to public relations and information technology.

The Makhanlal Chaturvedi National University of Journalism has its main campus in Bhopal. This campus is spread over the 7000 square meters area at MP Nagar, adjacent to the Press Complex in the heart of the city. This university also has modern classroom facilities. This also has well-equipped laboratories.
