Located in East Champaran, where the Draconian Law of Indigo farming was abolished, Mahatma Gandhi Central University was founded in 2016. The university established multiple departments for various courses within a short period. With strong academic excellence and an impressive placement record, the university is regarded as one of the most reputed universities in the state. 

Admission to the university is solely based on the student's performance in the competitive entrance examination, and therefore, the student body at the university constitutes intelligent students who are academically excellent. The university has grown exponentially through the years in terms of its academics and placement rates.

Additionally, the university offers a vibrant and enriching campus environment with numerous events and activities throughout the year. Apart from offering successful placement opportunities, the university also encourages students to pursue higher studies and assists them in clearing the eligibility examinations with flying colours. The university also has good infrastructure with facilities catering to the academic and recreational needs of the students.

Nominal Course Fees

The course fees vary depending on the course type, specialisation, duration and requirements. For instance, the courses that include practical sessions or fieldwork in their curriculum have additional fees, while those that do not require these are excluded.

While there is relaxation in the cut-off marks for students who belong to underrepresented categories during admission, no fee concessions are applicable. According to the latest fee structure, the course fees for the prominent programs, such as MA, M.Sc Mathematics, MA, B.Li.Sc, BAJMC, B.Com, and M.Com courses are INR 5000 per semester.

The semesterial course fees for other programs, like B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc Life Sciences, M.Sc Physical Science and MBA, are INR 24,000, INR 11,500, INR 9000, INR 6500 and INR 15,300, respectively. 

In addition to the course fees being nominal, the university offers numerous scholarships based on students' merit and financial need. The scholarship makes quality education more accessible to students from different socioeconomic backgrounds.

Attendance Policy

The university has a flexible attendance policy. In other words, the university has no strict rules and regulations regarding the attendance of students. There are no penalties for those who miss the class.

As a relatively new university, it has a modern and well-maintained infrastructure with all the necessary facilities for a conducive learning environment. Along with a well-facilitated academic infrastructure, the university has also incorporated several facilities for recreational and sports activities.

However, students have expressed concern about some departmental facilities that are outdated or not up to the mark. Altogether, the students' feedback on the university's infrastructure is a mixed bag, with some students being more impressed than others.

Each department at the university has dedicated academic buildings with different classrooms, lecture halls and laboratories. The classrooms and lecture halls are generally spacious enough to accommodate large groups of students, with audio-visual equipment such as projectors, whiteboards, etc., to enable interactive learning.

Along with these facilities, the university also has included seminar halls and conference rooms for presentations and other academic activities. The laboratories are located within separate academic buildings, equipped with modern instruments and facilities to provide students with practical learning opportunities. As mentioned above, some departments may lack facilities compared to older universities.

Nonetheless, most of the significant laboratories at the university are well-equipped with facilities to ensure students have the necessary environment to perform relevant practical activities and cutting-edge research.

The university also has a well-equipped computer lab with internet access that students across different departments can use. The computer systems are equipped with modern hardware and software. Students have access to intellectual and academic resources through these facilities. 

The central library at the university is well-stocked with a rich collection of resources, such as books, journals, and periodicals, available for all subjects and disciplines. The library boasts many printed and electronic materials for scholarly information and research support. 

Students can access the digital library and online databases through the computer systems available within the library. It is semi-automated, which makes the exchange and searching of resources hassle-free. Along with the rich collection of resources, the central library also has spacious seating areas where students can read and study peacefully.

To ensure students' well-rounded development, the university has included several facilities for sports activities, ranging from courts and fields for outdoor sports like basketball, cricket, volleyball, football, etc., to indoor games like table tennis, carroms, chess, badminton, etc. The university also has a whipped gymnasium to encourage students to maintain their physical fitness and academics.

Apart from the facilities mentioned above, the university boasts several other facilities for transportation, banking, healthcare and cultural activities. The university has a decent infrastructure, but some areas require improvement. The university is actively involved in making the necessary renovations and improvements to ensure students have a well-rounded campus experience.

Limited Hostels

The university provides housing facilities only for female students. The hostel rooms are allotted double occupancy, and the rooms are well-furnished with separate beds, tables, chairs and cupboards for each student. 

The hostel also has essential facilities and amenities such as Wi-Fi connection, recreational facilities, hot water supply, coolers and water purifiers. In addition, standard reading rooms and indoor sports facilities are also included in the hostel. Timely meals are provided through the hostel mess, which is hygienic and clean. Though the food quality is average and there are limited varieties in the dishes, students are generally satisfied with the mess facilities.

As all the rooms allocated in the hostel are double occupancy with uniform facilities, the hostel fees are the same for all students. The hostel fee per semester is INR 9000.

Due to the lack of housing facilities for boys, several private hostels and PGs are available close to the university. The monthly rents for the PGs available near the university vary depending on the room type, occupancy and facilities provided. 

Vibrant Campus Life

Most students on the online platforms have praised the university for its green and serene campus filled with a variety of opportunities for academic and extracurricular activities. While the university focuses on academic excellence, it also has several clubs and societies catering to various interests and hobbies.

Students can be part of these clubs where they can nurture their talents and innovative ideas. The university also organises events where students can showcase their talents and skills.

The university has a dedicated culture and literacy council responsible for promoting cultural and literary values among the students. Although some students have mentioned that there are limited leisure activities compared to other universities, most students are thrilled about their campus experience.

Diversity on Campus

The university falls behind in terms of regional diversity as the student body here mainly consists of students from different parts of the state. However, there are students from other regions of the country, but on a smaller count. 

Nonetheless, there is significant representation of students from underrepresented communities and categories as the course fee structure is nominal and affordable to students from diverse backgrounds. There is a balanced gender ratio, with students from all genders being part of the student population.

In order to create more awareness about these underrepresented communities and to provide a welcoming environment for students, the university also has dedicated cells led by staff members and students.

Dress Code

Neither does the university have a defined uniform nor an official dress code for students. However, the students are expected to wear decent and appropriate clothing. Though there is no university-wide dress code, some departments have specific dress code expectations, especially for disciplines with practical sessions. 

Impressive Placements

Within a short period, the university has marked its place within the job market through its academic excellence and reputation. The past year's records show that the university has achieved a 100% placement rate. Several students have also cleared the GATE exam with flying colours. Students received placement opportunities from numerous reputed companies across various sectors. 

The university's dedicated Career Council and Placement Cell provide the necessary guidance and training for the students to perform well in their placement interviews. They also invite reputed companies to collaborate with the university to offer placements to deserving students.

Based on the records from the previous year, the highest salary package offered to students at the university is INR 32 LPA, and the average salary package is INR 6 LPA.
