About Loyola College of Education, Jamshedpur

Loyola College of Education is a B. Ed College run by the Society of Jesus for the future teachers of Jharkhand. It was established by the Jesuits in July, 1976 under the able leadership of the founding Principal Rev Fr K. M. Judge. Since then, the college has left no stone unturned to produce efficient teachers, who are now shaping the future of India.
With a view to transform the educational scenario in Jharkhand where there was an acute shortage of trained and well qualified teachers, Fr. Kenneth Judge, S.J. an American Jesuit missionary started Loyola College of Education in the year 1976 at XLRI campus, in Jamshedpur. The college was shifted to its present campus at Telco, Jamshedpur with 15 acres of land in 1992 and is about 6km away from Tatanagar railway station.

The college is a self financed co-educational Christian Minority Educational institution. It was first affiliated to Ranchi University in 1977 and is now affiliated to newly formed Kolhan University. The college is recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education, New Delhi since 11th February, 1997. Minority Status is accorded to this institution by the National Commission for Minority Educational Institutions in 2007 (F.No. 1045 of 2006).

The college is registered under the local title “Loyola College of Education Jamshedpur Society” under the Societies Registration Act 1860 – with the registration no. 381 of 2005-2006. ‘Arrupe Bhavan’ a hostel for women was constructed in the college campus and was inaugurated in 2009 and it can accommodate 55 girls. Every year about a thousand students apply for the B.Ed. course of one year duration out of which only 100 are selected.
